I was hoping that someone can give me some guidence on how to train my dogs not to attack us when walking in the door at home. I have three dogs...a Mini Schnauzer, a Shih Tzu and Beagle/Corgie mix. Every day when I come home from work I have to fight my way through them to put down my groceries, purse, etc. When the doorbell rings and we have company, it is a fight to get them to stay off the company. They all want to see what is giong on. Has anyone had this same problem in the past that they were able to correct? If so, can you please let me know the best way to handle it?

The recommended way to get them to stop is to fold you arms and look away from them. Say "sit" in a firm voice (still looking away) until they settle down. Once they sit, then you pet them and praise them, but if they get rowdy again, ignore them again. They are jumping up to get your attention, even when you put your hands out to push them away, it feels like you are playing with them, so they "win". You have to teach them to get attention on your terms. You will have to get your guests to do this as well, so that the dogs know the rule applies to everybody. This worked really well with our dog. It might take a bit longer with yours since there are three of them competing for your attention, and they have been doing it for awhile, so it is an ingrained habit. If you can ingrain their response to "sit" really well, it will help for when you have company, too. Good Luck.

This is a good recommendation and I will definitely work on it. Normally I don't mind the hyperactive personalities, but bringin in the groceries becomes a lot more complicated when you have three dogs jumping on you. I will let you know how it goes!!!

We have 3 small dogs and I LOVE when I get home and my dogs go nuts. Their little backsides wiggle along with their wagging tails, they cry out in delight, and they cover me in kisses. What's not to love??? I just prepare myself before I go in and put down any bags I may have. After a minute or two when they calm down, I will bring in my packages. But I do agree that everyone, especially guests, may not like this. My dogs pretty much back away from people they don't know, but they do go nuts with people they know, like my daughter's grandmother. Usually I pick up one or two or just ask our visitor to wait while I put them in the bedroom. Then I let them out one at a time. I have found they feed off of each other and when I let one out and the other is calm, they all stay calm.

omg yea my dogs are the same way...especially with me. and its just hell when I've been away for a few days and come home I have not only two midsized dogs on me but also 4 cats oddly enough...not to mention my kids LOL..No wonder when I go away I dread coming home LOL Have I foudn a way to correct it? No not really. But if they are TOO rowdy (which usually my male dog is) I sometimes have to grab him by the neck firmly and tell him to settle down ya know...other than that though I just go with it..I've come to learn that as soon as I get home I need to get down to their level and let them sniff and lick me and I must pet them, pay them attention etc THEN I can put my purse etc down and get my shoes off.
