is msn messenger free on my mobile?

hi i have a nokia n73, it was on contract with 3 but they cut me off so i have just started to use it with a pay as you go sim card. the sim was not regestered, i cant make calls or texts or wap but just tried to get onto msn messenger just to see if it worked, and it did! so is the msn messenger free with the phone, or the sim card? dont really wanna ring them. when i got the phone it said it was free but i thought that was just cus i was on contract, is anyone else got the phobe with free msn?
