It is that time of year again, to clean up our garden plots. We are still eating beets and carrots out of our vegetable garden as well as vegetable marrow. It is so delicious now that the weather is getting a bit cooler and we are turning to eating more hot meals than we do in the summer. I am wondering how many MyLotters grow their own vegetables? Do you have green houses? Are you planning to introduce something new into your garden next year?

Sometimes communities have something called a community garden which you rent garden plots so you can grow your own vegetables. perhaps there is something like this near where you live. Thank you for your response.

I have a vegetable garden every year! I've done this since I was a kid and put in charge of growing tomatoes. We just moved to this house last year in May, making it hard to get a decent garden in because I was so busy, but I managed to get a few things planted. There was a nice herb garden already here but it only had a few herbs in it. I've expanded it and now have about a dozen herbs growing in it. We have 3 acres of land with this house, so I finally have the room I've always wanted to grow everything I've always wanted. This past year, my garden was bigger than the year before and, next year I plan to make it huge! I planted a lot of fruit and nut trees this year. Hopefully, in a few years, I'll be harvesting a nice crop of fruits and nuts! In the meantime, I plan on expanding my vegetable garden each year to include new things. I planted kiwi vines this year which is something I've never done before. I have all kinds of berries growing. I have 3 banana plants that I've kept as indoor plants. They've never produced bananas, most likely because they're indoor plants. Next year, I plan on planting one of them in the ground and hopefully get some bananas from it! I can always dig it up late in the season and bring it indoors again. My husband has promised me a new, bigger deck with a really large sunroom which I will use as a greenhouse. I'd love to grow things like tomatoes, lettuce, bananas and all kinds of tropical fruits throughout the year and a sunroom would be perfect for that!

Thank you, Evr, for the BR. How is your garden doing this year? My cherry trees have fruits for the first time and I've very excited! I have a lot of peaches growing this year, too. I had a few grow last year (maybe a dozen) but the wildlife got to them before I did. I've taken extra precautions this year, though, so I should be able to eat freshly picked peaches soon. I still don't have my sunroom... I guess that was another pipe dream of my husband's. He's great at making promises but not very good at carrying them out. So, I'm making do with what I have. My veggie garden is bigger than ever this year with an added, uhh, bonus. There's a ratsnake living somewhere near the garden. I saw it slither under a bush a few days ago. So NOT cool! Oh, it will help to keep rodents from eating my veggies but, geez, I can scare off the rodents; snakes don't scare that easily.
