What's the first thing that you would ask your doctor or any other health care professionals? What would be running in your mind? I am doing an assignment on this topic of diabetes where I need to know what's the most "frequently asked questions" on this debilitating chronic disease. I for one would surely be interested in the aspect of diet/food. I love food so much and very much curious to know what I could eat and still able to enjoy if I am going to live with diabetes for the rest of my life. And how would you feel when you are told you have diabetes? Thank you for sharing and appreciate the inputS given. Cheers and happy posting!

i dont know much about diabetes,.. okay, okay, i know nothing at all about diabetes! :P but wow, if doctor said that i have diabetes, i'll probably miss chocolate very much! And that's absolutely gonna be my first question lol. And the next will be about the insulin intake that i should take. I cant imagine injecting insulin to myself! Thought of needle pierce through your skin is frightening enough without you being the one who do it. I hope you'll do great with the assignment, desierra!!!

Hi Goldflower, I would miss chocolate too..lol, the dark ones is pretty harmless compared to the milky ones. I guess there's still hope some how. Not all will be on insulin so needles are not a must as most people has thought. Thank you for the input & have posting! Cheers,

I do not have it myself, but I know alot of people that have the disease. They asked if they would need to take injections or not first and foremost. Alot of people can take pills or modify their diet to control the disease.

Hi Shell, I guess most people think of it as a disease and not as a problem. And "diseases" like this with injections would perhaps make it go away fasterinstead actually changes of their lifestyle would be more significant in improving their health status in a long run. Thank you for sharing and cheers,

If only that were the case with Diabetes, but unfortunately it is something that never goes away. It generally worsens over time for most people.

The 1st thing i will ask is, will i still be able to eat normally?? ANd if i dun follow a strict diet, what's gonna happen?? And diabetes means i can have sweet stuffs, but how about salty stuffs?? And will i be able to carry on living my life as normal?? lol =D I will ask all those questions because food and running are the 2 most important thing in my life, and as far as i know, being a diabetic, one cant afford to have any wounds or cuts, because it will take very long time to heal or even not healing at all, thus resulting in infection and amputation of the limbs.. So no matter how, i will hope that i won't have diabetes.. hehe

Hi Kun, nice to hear from you again and thank you for sharing. That's some interesting questions raised there and I think most people are very curious about food most of all. I am sure with your knowledge and health consciousness, you will have a good healthy quality life until 100 years old. That's some secret to ponder for others Cheers and happy posting!

I don't have diabetes and it thankfully, doesn't run in my family. I guess the first thing to find out is what type does the person have. Type 1 diabetes is the the type that is inherited through the bloodlines and is often isulin dependant. Type 2 has little to do with bloodlines and is often the result of poor diet. Chronic food allergies, chronic stress, and viral infections can also be factors in Type 2. To properly treat diabetes a person would most likely be told to eliminate all refined sugars, fast foods, processed junk foods, coffee, caffeine, soda, fried foods and products containing white flour.Even healthy items, such as honey, maple syrup, agaves, etc would need to be removed from the diet. A diet high in organic vegetables and complex whole grains, along with small intakes of whole fruit that contains seeds or pits, rather than fruit juice, has also been found to be helpful for many people suffering from Type II diabetes. One of my friends has Type 2 and he's benefitted from a gradual weight loss, light exercise and eating smaller, more frequent meals. He actually eats 5 small meals a day, and no more than 2 of those meals contains meat. He's able to have a cup of coffee a couple of days a week (but usually limits it to a cup on Saturday and Sunday) He claims the more raw foods he eats, the better he feels and while his diet has completely changed, he finds he has totally mangaed his diabetes with little problem and can even have a once a week treat without an issue. Of course, I would imagine every person's illness is different, as is the commitment to the their treatment and every person should discuss diet with their physician.

If I had diabetes, I would be sad but not shocked since it is in our bloodline. Although I'm being cautious, I don't have it and my sugar level is now in control. (But I go against any control when it comes to pizza. LoL) I would do my best to prevent it. And if I did have it, I would certainly practice discipline. Discipline is really important for diabetes patients. What we eat, what we do, they are really important factors to help us get through it. Maybe I would ask the doctor the necessary things that I should do or the exact diet that I should take. Have a great day, my friend!

Hi Selece, I am taking utmost steps to prevent it too with a strong family background of this disease. But just like you once the craving starts no matter what kind of food, I am really at their mercy. Yes, food is so important that most people I come across would say that as their first thought in their minds. Thank you for sharing and happy mylotting! Cheers
