Has anyone ever traveled across Canada by train. Was it expensive? Was it worth it? Did you enjoy it? Do you recommend it? I'm planning on doing this in the near future and just wondering what it is like and if it is one of the best ways to travel across the country. I don't have a car so the next way I would be able to it is rent a car but that seems expensive and dangerous if I plan to go alone.

I have not yet been to Canada but when I do it would be amazing to travel across it on my favorite form of transport: train. I would buy a rail pass and then use it to travel from Halifax to Vancouver. I would stop along the way at places of interest. The cities that I would love to see are Montreal and Toronto. I would be happy if I did a side trip to Prince Edward Island and the Rocky Mountains. On the trains I am sure you would meet other friendly travelers. You would have lots more enjoyment traveling by train than going alone in a rental car. If you can't get a rail pass I suggest booking tickets in advance for a discount. You could look at the website to do this. Good luck and happy traveling.

A tip of advice, train service in the Maritimes isn't great.... 2 of the 3 major cities in NB (Fredericton and Saint John) dont get rail service, and most of the train stops seem to be in podunk little villages (Charlo, Jacquet River, Petit-Rocher) I'd probably do cross-canada by bus, you get to see more of it that way, and the prices are similar.
