Don't you hate it when you get switched to another line, when not notified...

I hate it when I am on the phone with someone, and they never bother to tell me to hold on while they switch me to another line.. Isn't that really rude? Why do receptionist's do that? I understand that they have a lot of people that are calling the line.. It would be polite to tell the caller to hold on instead of switching them to another line.. What do you do about things like this when it happens?

Well, if it's for a purchase, I just hang up, oops, u lost a sale! But if it's to handle an account, well I have to hang on! But, in their defense, I myself has done it to friends when we're on the phone. I would answer the other line without telling them to hold on, so it can happen subconsciously! Taripre$

Yes, I was telling her what services that I needed, and she just switched me to an line, without telling me to hold on. She never said the words hold on. The next thing I knew, I heard another line ringing... I was being connected to someone else.. It was very rude..

Unprofessional by a mile!! I'm not sure if she's being monitored, but if so, I'm sure she was spoken to about it! If not, then someone will, if they haven't, speak to a supervisor about her phone behavior Taripre$

Hi Cream, This really frustrates me also, that and the fact that I can never even get through to a real person and am kept on hold listening to some terrible music. LOL. Ellie :D

hi cream and ellie thats one of my pet peeves talking to a computer generated voice that wants all my numbers, and then I have to repeat over and over, I learned one thing, be clumsy and you get switched to a real live person as the robot man cannot understand your id numbers. from now on I will scramble up numbers like mad to get to talk to a real human being instead of some robot voice. lol lol lol

lol.. Yes, I don't like the fact to talk to an automated attendant either. This makes me impatient at times.. Sometimes those things can pick up the wrong frequency...

I had to redial and go through the whole process again, I got the same man and I s aid please do not hang up on me, you said you were putting me on hold and you hung up. He apologized saying someone else had done that. oh yeah, right. I didnt believe him for one second. lol lol lol.

Yes, they should. It is not fair that I get treated like this. Nor is it fair for anyone else to have to experience such rude behavior! This was totally unacceptable! For real!!!

I worked as an operator/dispatcher in the past and that is rude. At the very least the caller should be notified before doing something like that. That's the way we were taught. People are just too rude nowadays. Purrs, Catwoman=^..^= & Mija

Yes, I would do the same thing.. I get so tired of being treated like this. I know that they may have many callers, but that still gives them no right to just switch me to another line without telling me to hold on.. I am on the phone talking to them about what I needed, and then they just switch me to another extension without saying hold on.. That is rude.. I will start getting these kind of people into trouble.

Yes, because if we sit and do nothing, that lets them get away with hot water. If I had an position as an receptionist, I am sure that the caller would have told on me, if I had to do this to her. You would bet that I would be toast. So, I am going to start telling on them to their boss, than maybe they will stop being so rude..

The worst thing is when you give them all this information, your name, account number and tell them why you are calling and then they transfer you and you have to repeat all that information all over again! I think it is rude also.

Receptionist should undergo seminar on how to deal with people specially on the phone. exactly, you said it right!! that is totally rude. If they have reason why they did this, they should explain so that the customer would understand and not leaving them upset.

Explaining why they did what they did, is very helpful..

Hi cream97, Yes, it really does annoys me when they do that, especially when they leave me holding on for a long time, and whos paying the phone bill, not them, so I end up hanging up really angry. Tamara

Yes, they don't consider how much time that we spent holding on while they were away.. Talk about inconsiderate behavior!
