I have been hearing that it may be bad for us. I do use it often but am thinking now of stopping. Do you use it? What do you know about it?

vicki2876, At the moment, the research results about the side effects of Splenda have not been conclusive. It was believed from a recent research that it has been linked to weight gain and diminishes the body's ability to absorb medicine. And McNeil Nutritionals, which markets Splenda, has rejected the study, pointing out that it was part-funded by the Sugar Association - which is involved in a U.S. lawsuit critical of Splenda's marketing claims. The association initially took action against McNeil regarding Splenda's old slogan of 'Made like sugar, so it tastes like sugar'. Just for your information, Splenda is being used by soft drinks brands, candy bars, and fast food joints. So, unless you are under medication I do not see anything wrong with using them as sugar alternatives. I don't like it, but my mom uses it. I've heard that it's alot better for you than other imitation sweeteners, because it doesn't contain aspertame. Aspertame causes memory loss. This is the first time I've heard of it being dangerous. What have you heard about it being dangerous?

I have no idea if Splenda is dangerous or not. I use it. I don't use it all that often, but I do use it. I like to put it in my iced tea.

I used to use it.. I have heard that it can be dangerous.. But, I am not sure if so.. It could be rumors.. I will do an Internet search to see what are the possible positive and negative outcomes it has.. That way we will know for sure what we are up against.

Everything is dangerous! Do you ever notice how there are highs and lows of every breakthrough out there? This great new inovation (whether it be a revival of an old theory or a whole new breakthrough altogether) stops one thing but brings with it a whole new set of worries. Our bodyies are these supper machines with billions upon billions of multi faceted circuits working together to complete numerous tasks and functions. One small hiccup or misfire by anyone of our cells alone could cause irreprable damage. Luckily, we even have a circuit to combat this from happening (an immune system just for starters). The thing is these curcits and organs and cells that make up the human body are not isolated either; not only could something just malfunction but the introduction of something could cause anyone of these things to malfunction. We live in a world where we're bombarded constantly from all angles chemically, metobaliclly, physically, mentally, emotionally. Some may think theses to be either redunadant or unrelated but if you think about it they all play a part in who and how we are. Which brings me to my theory. Everything is dangerous! Anything we add (or subtract for that matter) to our bodies could cause potential damage. Too much sugars may lead to weight gain, which could cause stress on the heart, which could cause a heart attack. Not enough sugars, no insulin and well any diabetic can tell you the risk of that. So my conclusion, put what you have to in your body both physically and mentally; the less foreign and potentially hazardous things in there the better. Natural can be better unless you need something synthetic. Sugar is better than splenda unless you need a pound of it in your coffee to equal a tenth of what you'd use of splenda (like my boyfriend). And the word Moderation!!! will go a long long way in your life. Use it wisely and use it often.
