Your opinion of USB turntables please?

I have hundreds of 45s and LPs packed in a box tucked away in a large corner of my closet. I would like to be able to listen to them again and have considered using a USB turntable to convert them to CD or MP3 format. I have a very old turntable and have difficulty finding needles for it and no longer have a complete stereo system. So, before I buy into a new stereo system, I was wondering if anyone has used or researched a USB turntable for this purpose. I would also like to gain back some of my closet space and also feel I would be more likely to listen to the music on a CD or in MP3 format which leads to another question. What do I do with the vinyl after recording it? I know it may be considered strange but I have feelings for all of this vinyl, I may not be able to let it go, I have carted these records all over the country because I couldn't part with them but....they are just sitting in a box. Any suggestions or information would be greatly appreciated.
