Hey guys, looking for some advice on my travel options for 2009. I'm looking to make a trip to Utah/Nevada sometime in early 09 to visit friends and finish up my exams (i'm doing a few BYU courses online). Anyone know of some cheap ways to trvel from thru the US? Money sadly is the biggest roadblock for me, otherwise i would have gone earlier. Once i finish my degree, I want to spend some time travelling and finding myself. Beyond this trip I'd like to visit Western Canada, maybe make a swing thru the Eastern US, and try Europe. Just don't know how to fund it all :P (unless I spend all day on myLot lol)

You might think of buying train tickets at a discount in advance over the Internet. Perhaps you could stay at friends or do couch surfing. I suggest you buy an international student identity card. You might be able to do some work or earn extra money on the Internet. One friend on My Lot paid for half her trip with her on line earnings. She often writes in the earn extra money category. I do My Lot for making friends and enjoyment of the interesting discussion. The money I earn is a bonus. When I was younger I funded a trip to Greece with earnings from a paper round and a trip to the Netherlands with earnings from a Saturday job in a shop. I wanted to explore Europe but I didn't have enough money so I job in Finland as a children's nanny. The wages were really high and funded my inter rail adventures around Europe. Good luck and happy traveling.

And good tips on places to get train/plane tickets online? And how much in advance is a good time to buy. Yeah, i don't expect myLot to pay for a major trip, at least not for awhile :P But making a few bucks online would definately help. Especially when i'm in the US and can't work (being Canadian and all) if i run short. If i'm going a distance, i want to make it worth my while, so prob like 1-3 months in an area
