I am planing to visit Hong Kong sometime in December (hopefully). Do you know what is there to see in HK? I desperately want to go and see the Disney World park -but is it expensive there? I am trying to find a tour package which is relatively cheap. Hope I find it soon.

Hi there nilugo, I'll also be visiting Hong Kong, but in November which is in a few weeks' time. I am also spending two nights in Macau before going to Hong Kong. This will be my 3rd visit to Hong Kong. The other members before me have already given you a rundown of most of these places, so I will not repeat these. There are a few other places Hong Kong is famous for. These are Repulse Bay, Stanley Market, Aberdeen and Temple Street. The Jumbo floating restaurant is where Aberdeen is. Stanley Market is a flea market situated at Stanley, while Repulse Bay offers the best beach on Hong Kong Island that Hong Kong has. Temple Street is the men's night market, the equivalent of the Ladies' Night Market. Over at Lantau Island where the Big Buddha is, there is a relatively new cable car system called Ngong Ping 360. This attraction which was opened in September 2006, consists of the Ngong Ping Cable Car and Ngong Ping Village. This is a 25-minute cable car ride and I read that it is very scenic. For shopping, there are quite a number of shopping centres in Kowloon as well as Hong Kong Island, and the New Territories as well. You can visit malls like Ocean Terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui, Causeway Bay Plaza, In Square, Sogo and Times Square (all at Causeway Bay area), Pacific Place (at Admiralty) or even see the New Town Plaza, a big new mall at Sha Tin. All these places are served by the MTR network. There are many other shopping malls...I've just named only a few. Hong Kong hotels are not cheap. Even the 3 or 3.5 star hotels are at least above S$100 a night, and the better ones (4 star and above) are close to S$200 or more a night. Their hotels generally do not come with breakfast. If you want cheaper hotels in good locations near MTR stations, try Metropark Mongkok and The Cityview Hotel. You can also try the Royal Park Hotel (4 star but 3 star price) - a relatively new and lovely hotel in Sha Tin, next to the New Town Plaza and served by MTR railway. These few hotels I've mentioned are popular with Singapore local travel agents. There's also slightly more expensive ones like The Prudential Hotel and Eaton Hotel. Hope you find something suitable. Try Cityview Hotel, which is reaonably nice and is value for money.

Thanks so much Lexus54. I hope I will be able to go and see all these places, but my main interest is Disneyland. But I want go and see the ladies market -what exactly do they have there? Is it like a handicraft market? I am also interested in going to see buddhist temples there.

Disneyland in Hong Kong is a smaller version (4 main worlds) compared to those elsewhere like in US, France or Japan. Still it may be worth going if you have not been to one. My suggestion is to go later in the morning and stay till the night. The MTR brings you right to the park...just alight at the Disneyland MTR station. December is a good time to go, as Disneyland HK has a special Christmas lightup and programme for the Christmas season from 28th November to 2nd January. Don't forget to visit Ocean Park, which to me is a more worthwhile theme park to see. It is quite a sprawling park with rides, shows, oceanarium, a spectacular cable car system and other fun activities. I think there is a bus service from one of the MTR stations (Admiralty, I think) direct there, and you can also buy your tickets at the ticket booth at this place. The Ladies' Market is walking distance from Mongkok MTR station. If you stay in Cityview Hotel, you can actually walk to both the Ladies' and Men's markets. The Ladies' Market is a night street market much like our Bugis Village. It is bright and crowded at night. It is a flea market, so anything can be sold like our pasar malams. But mostly, you will find ladies clothing and accessories, bags, belts, purses, jewellery, T-Shirts, maybe even handicraft, CDs/VCDs/DVDs and other bric-bracs. Take a look at the pictures here http://www.12hk.com/area/Mongkok/LadiesMarket.shtml. It will give you a good idea of what the Ladies' Market look like. Just be careful what you buy there. There's lots of imitation. I once bought CDs there say by Mariah Carey, and when I brought them home, the songs were all sung by imitation singers, but the cover showed Mariah Carey. It was the same with a couple of other artistes. But when you are there, they play the original CDs so the songs you hear from their CD player sound like the original artistes. Also, you should bargain, because anything goes as far as the price is concerned. In Hong Kong, many streets everywhere are like pasar malam by day. There is no end to street stalls selling all kinds of things at many of the side streets on Kowloon side. If you want to buy computer stuff, they have a computer centre (like our Sim Lim Sq) in Kowloon next to the Sham Shui Po MTR station. I think it is at the Golden Shopping Centre. The Sham Shui Po area is also famous for wholesalers and factory outlet shops, so you can get stuff at bargain basement prices if you go around that area.

The Ladies Night Market (within Tsim Sha Tsui area also, near Mongkok 7. Mongkok (where you could buy cheap electronic gadgets). 8. The Peak (in Hong Kong Island), and ride the tram. I hoe you could find a good package and visit the places I have mentioned. Happy vacation!

Then there's Avenue of Stars. There's some museum nearby. And not forgetting MONGKOK! shopping haven..Actually Mongkok is not the only shopping haven..there's heaps of others..there's this shop selling mango-based dessert almost everywhere and worth a try..the name is "Hui Lau Shan"..actually I plan to go back in the future..there are still places I haven't explore! And I miss the shopping!

i love hongkong! mainly because i can go around without getting lost (which i can't do in my own country). i first went there last year and it was also my first time to travel abroad. my friend and i made our own itinerary and didn't avail of any tour package. for convenience, we got a reloadable octopus card which can be used to pay in various establishments - mtr, bus, ferry, mcdo, 7-eleven, etc. also, don't forget to get a copy of the free maps available at the airport. by the way, when you're on an elevator, stay on the right side. people in a rush walk on the left side. theme park - visit disney on a regular day because the entrance fee is cheaper. personally, i liked ocean park more. shopping - the prince edward area is better for me than the ladies market of mongkok. citygate in tung chung for outlet stores but h&m is in central and i like the bossini outlet in mongkok better. accommodation - since we were on a tight budget, we stayed at dragon hostel in mongkok. that area is so alive at night. gadgets - i'd like to go back to sham shui po other sights - victoria peak minus madame tussauds, po lin monastery and big buddha in lantau, hong kong park food - royce chocolate (bitter nama) at harbour city, tsim sha tsui=D
