Does your church or any place in your community give out

food baskets around the holidays for needy families? My church usually gives out food baskets to at least ten families during the holidays, these baskets used to consist of turkey, ham and all the fixings, plus fruit and desserts. this year my pastor said we would not be giving out baskets to anyone except the church members that needs, and that the church was not going to supply any meat. There are three nearby churches, and the Pastor said that people who were not members or who never even visited the church would get the baskets, then go to the other two churches and collect food. We never investigated to see if these people were really needy or not. So I am wondering were they really needy or just greedy. What happens in your community, are food baskets given out to the needy at holiday time?

Well, I have just joined my church, but I do not know for sure. What they do have is an ongoing collection of food for our local food bank. Among other general food items we collect, we have commited to the food bank to deliver them 25 jars of mayonaise each month. Another thing we did just recently was to collect back to school supplies to fill 100 bookbags for kids who may not be able to afford them. Also, once a month we serve dinner at the local Open Door Mission.

My church has food sunday every second sunday of every month. They ask the members to bring in a certain food that week and it is donated to a outreach program in our town. They don't do baskets for the needy during the holidays, but this way we are contributing all year long.

That is wonderful that your church does this yearly. We have a food pantry in the church which can be used by the church members.
