How Do Your Schools Add Up??

I have to say I am extremely disgusted with my daughters school. This disgust has been growing since last year. It started when my daughter was talking in class, she is very intelligent and tends to finish all her work and busy work before other students, well as a punishment the teacher took the group activity of hunting easter eggs away from her. Everyone in the class got to hunt eggs but her, she had to turn her little bag around and write on it, sorry can't come, I was bad. I find that highly disturbing. Yes, there should be discipline, but not lowering a child's self esteem!! And now today, the principle called and said she was "communicating threats" so I asked what does that mean exactly to a 2nd grader. Well, she said she was going to beat someone up. First of all, my daughter is pretty timid when it comes to speaking her mind and won't do so unless she is provoked first...and then I was told that if it happens again, they would suspend her!! Oh it really gripes my bum to hear that. I think that is a little much, but how do you guys feel??

Most of the children's problems is their own parents fault. I am speaking from my experience as a teacher for quite a number of years. Try to view school and teachers as your partners rather than your oppressors or enemies. If you don't agree with a school rule, try to do it in a civilised way. " Well, she said she was going to beat someone up." Even if she did not mean this threat, its still a threat and other classmates would take it as a real threat. So you can help as an intermediator between your daughter and the school administration. I wish you luck.

I wouldn't be so offended if this were being handled better to begin with. She is 8, she has never seen someone beat up, been beat up, or anything of the sort. The biggest problem she has is the fact that she is way smarter than her classmates and is often ridiculed for that by them, although she tries to be very helpful and is a sweet child all around. We never have any problems like this here at home with her.

Oh I know how you mean. I was having problem with my daughters school last year. She has behavioral problems and other issues. The school knew this and I was trying to get all taken care of. Well, they stopped her the day before the class was to leave to see a movie. Had my daughters hopes up. So, I kept her out of school that day and took her to the movie theater myself. I switched schools because of how bad the last one was. Well, I really liked my kids new school this year. But we moved and that school is just right out of the zone we live. Right on the other side of the line. But I force to take my kids out. I was suppose to have a choice of ten other schools to choose from. Well, my kids got choice #6 which I hate. School that were #7,8,9,and 10 were uniform schools. Which I didn't want either. As last year I switched from them. Well #6 school is the school my hubbys niece goes to. It has no tutoring because my daughter really needs it as she is belwo reading level. The only thing she is passing is math. Oh um, now I have to re start the paper work back a third time in less than a year to get her IEP started again that the school from last year dropped.

But mind you my first choice is two houses down from my new place. Now my kids have to be on the bus for an hour and half each way every day. How stupid is that? I was also told there si no waiting list. So, I can't place my kids on a waiting list to switch schools.

My daughter has severe ADHD and has a hard time sitting. So, being on the bus that long is trail for her. By time she gets home all she wants to do is run. She sure doesn't want to do any homework. It makes it hard on everyone. As her medicine wears off around the time she is on the bus as well. I don't care for the uniforms because it cost sto much to try and maintain a whole set of outfits out side of school and a whole set that is unifroms. I tried for three years and said that was enough. As the school shirts had to ahve the schools logo on it and purchased at the school for 20 bucks a pop. Sorry but I don't have that much money to spend on one shirt. Not when I can get a bunch of pretty shirts on the clearance rack at wal-mart for cheaper than that.

Oh lord, that is awful! One of my sisters spends that much time on the school bus each day. She hates it. My other sisters as well as my children go to a uniform school and I don't really care for that either, I think it takes away the child's freedom of expression!
