gps api for midlet

I have heard some cellphone has a gps inside. that means could be possible to get the latitude and longitude from that gps using a java midlet. So, there is some java api to help to interact with the gps rutines ??? maybe some classes could help to get the latitude and longitude in a safe and quick way. have anybody heard or seen about this kind of api ???
