Ever heard of "Dumpster Diving"?

One of many dressers - Stripped it and refinished it and now it's in my daughter's room!

I admit it! I'm a dumpster diver! That's when I go out on "garbage night" to see what people have put out at the curb. You would not believe some of the things I have found! I've gotten the most beautiful furniture - dressers, mirrors, sofas, tables, lamps, chairs! Sure, a lot of times they require some work - often times I only have to give them a good cleaning, other times I have had to strip and refinish the piece. But I either put them in my house or sell them or even give them away or donate them! I've made a tidy little sum off of some of the pieces! Once I caught some people putting out bags and bags of stuff - I stopped to talk with them - it turned out that their mother had just passed away and they had to empty out her apartment. Sad for them - but I got everything from unopened makeup and perfumes to kitchen stuff to Chrtstmas decorations to clothes to tons of gorgeous furniture. Her kids didn't want any of the stuff and were from out-of-town, so didn't want to be bothered with dispensing of it any other way! My daughter called it our 'jackpot' and indeed it was! Does anyone else like doing this crazy little hobby?

Sure -Neighbors have thrown out some perfectly good area rugs, and coffee tables. If something looks in great condition. why not?

I've heard of it, never done it but think it's pretty cool that you've got something good from it. Some people are so wasteful. Isn't it ileagal in some areas?

Hi there genihanna Where I used to live before people used to throw out decent stuff too and my husband used to bring it home. Since I have moved people don't seem to throw anything good away it is all put on the freecycle website.
