What does extended listing mean?

My girlfriend and I are trying to buy a house, and we found one that we're really interested in. Our real estate agent has already shown us the house, but we notice that on their website, the status of the house is "xtnd." I realize that is abbreviated for extend, but what does that mean? I appreciate the help!
