FACIALS - Good or Bad??

My cousin is a licensed aesthetician and massage therapist. Last year for Christmas she gave me a facial and a manicure. It was wonderful. Of course these treatments are expensive and originally thought… I would never have this done if it wasn't a gift.
After the facial my face was beaming. My skin was so soft and radiant, I couldn't believe it. The lines on my face were definitely less prominent. This made me rethink the value of a facial.
Today I read this article on webmd and thought I’d share it with you - How to tell what’s good for the skin and what’s a waste of money.
"How do you decipher which are good for your skin and which are a waste?
Keep in mind a few key treatments and you’ll be set, says Jessie Cheung, MD, assistant professor of dermatology and associate director of cosmetic dermatology at NYU Medical Center. For example, alpha and beta hydroxy chemical peels offer medical benefits and are among the treatments worth the cost, but each has different benefits. “A common beta hydroxy is salicylic acid, which gets into the oil glands and is very good for someone with acne-prone skin,” she says. Alpha hydroxy acids are good exfoliators and beneficial for older skin that has lost radiance.
Galvanic facials, which involve electrically stimulating the skin with a handheld device, are another good value. Electric currents enable moisturizers and serums to penetrate the skin more deeply. “Anything that helps products get into your skin will help them work better,” Cheung says. She also advises facials that include retinoic acid, which helps slough off older skin cells, build collagen, and reduce the signs of aging. But you’ll need a treatment every four to six weeks to see results.
What should you pass on? Oxygen facials, while popular with celebrities for supposedly hydrating and immediately smoothing and plumping the skin, aren’t worth the extra cash. Cheung says no clinical studies demonstrate their effectiveness."

Yes, facials are definitely worth the money coz the massage is the thing that does the trick. No one at home would massage my face for so long and of course I cant do it so well myself. But money’s definitely a big factor so I have till now, given it a skip at the salon. I usually use a pack once or twice a week, exfoliate my face once or twice a week, use a herbal face wash always and once in a while massage my face with home-made cream. That ways its cheaper and till now, the results are OK.

I actually take my state board to be an esthetician in a few days. Facials are wonderful and can really slow down the appearance of aging, if done right. A good esthetician will actually treat your skin conditions rather than just give you something that's relaxing.

I know that facials are good to some point. I have a friend that had such bad skin, there was nothing on the common shelves that could help. And her doctor recommended her to go for facials with some of the products the doctor is using, her face condition improved so much.
Now, she is on regular facial sessions and her skin is just like yours and mine. No more red swelling and sores filled with pus.
With so many products on the market, it is really hard to decipher which is good and which is not.
Whether the products is worth the money spent on it, I guess your cousin would be able to know better.
Have you shared this article with your cousin? What is her view on this?
