You knew it was going to happen

Well after the whole hanging effigy of Palin thing you knew some people were going to do the same to obama. Especially after the police said they would not do anything about it. They called it bad taste but not against the law. One at the University of Kentucky and one in a guys yard in Indiana. The one at the university was immediately took down and I am sure the school will be harsh on whoever did it, if they find out (by the way this is the second one they have had to take down this week). They guy in Indiana says his is just halloween decorations. He says Obama scares him and that halloween is all about scarey stuff. The same thing the guy in california said about his display of Palin. Fox University in Oregan is currently punishing four student who hanged an effigy of Obama on their campus. Who did not think that this was not going to happen. When the guy in California did not get into trouble for his hanging Palin effigy you knew obama ones were going to pop up everywhere. Now lets see if anyone gets in trouble for his. Personally I do not like the hanging effigy of either candidate. It is in extremely bad taste and disrepectful. But there is not law against bad taste or being disrespectful so I guess we will have to live with it for an other weeek until this election is over. What do you think is going to happen to the people who hung Obama effigys? Will they get away with it like the who did the palin effigy?

Don't know if they will get away with it or not. I suppose it depends on a lot of variables. Personally, I don't think any of these ugly little acts (Girl who carved a B into her own cheek, little bear cub killed and pinned with an Obama sign, effigy lynchings etc) are political in nature although they are certainly antisocial and criminal. The truth is the people committing this acts are sociopaths and would do something aberrant eventually anyway. By adding a political statement, they guarantee themselves a national headline instead of an anonympus listing on a police blotter in their own town or city. They should be looked upon as dangerous people who need help but their acts should never be viewed as a reflection on either political party. The criminally insane are not political. They are just sick and dangerous.

This is a very tough call. First and foremost, it's totally disgusting for anyone to hang an effigy of anyone, period, end of story. But, should it be against the law or should there be different laws for different people, as in since lynchings were a common thing done to African Americans so SOME people may consider it somehow worse when it's done to a black person than to a white. I had heard of the one of Palin but this was the first I'd heard of the ones of Obama. Surprisingly to some I'm sure, I heard about the Palin effigy on Countdown when Keith Olbermann, who is no Palin fan to say the least, named the person who had done that as the "Worst Person in the World". This whole never-ending, seemingly everlasting campaign has made me think about some things I hadn't thought about before. Very early on I was quite pleased because racism and sexism didn't seem to enter into it much at all but either I was in some kind of a fog or it just took awhile for it to kick in. Now there are lots of people who are hyper-sensitive about just about everything and I think it's very sad. I've always valued our freedom of speech and expression as much as anything else in my life and the world but is there a line to be drawn that won't send us down that proverbial slippery slope? I sure wish I knew the answer but for now I'm just happy the election will soon be over, Halloween will be over tomorrow and hopefully all this ugliness will finally stop or at least lessen considerably. I really do not think the Obama effigies are racical. They did not start popping up until the Palin one was put up. Especially after the FBI and local police said they could not do anything about it. My guess is that a few people got mad and decided to do one of Obama to prove a point. A bad point in my opinion. But the guy who did the Palin effigy got harrassed so much he agreed to take it down. So maybe now it will stop. I agree that is very wrong no matter who it is. Hopefully after the election people will stop a lot of the ugliness.

Who could not have predicted this or the way each would be handled. Palin hung = art Obama hung = hate speech *gasp *shock I think most in here agrea with the rediculous angle this carries, Obama supporters in here included, but the sad fact is, the sheep/cattle mentality of the masses out THERE in the world see it EXACTLY as I put it up above in this post.
