We as a family quit celebrating Christmas a few years ago. I had always been told it was a pagen holiday but never understood why people said it. I have read different passages in the Bible when Jesus says celebrate my Death not my birth. My husband showed me Jeremiah 10: 2-16 in the bible and I havent celebrated Christmas since. So is it in the bible to Celebrate Christmas and if so where?

The true meaning of Christmas is love. The real Christmas story is the story of God's becoming a human being in the Person of Jesus Christ. Why did God do such a thing? Because He loves us! Why was Christmas necessary? Because we needed a Savior! He gave His only Son to take our punishment for our sins. He paid the price in full, and we are free from condemnation when we accept that free gift of love. Why do we celebrate Christmas each year? Out of gratitude for what God did for us, we remember His birth by giving each other gifts, worshipping Him, and being especially conscious of the poor and less fortunate. For Christians, Christmas traditions can be an important part of the celebration of the birth of our Savior, and they remind us of that momentous event that changed the world forever. I don't see any reason Why a CHRISTIAN SHOULDN'T celebrate Christmas! Surely this is the cause for celebration every day, not just once a year. God Bless You! http://www.gotquestions.org/Christmas-traditions.html http://www.gotquestions.org/December-25.html

Truth be told, it won't (Christmas) be in the bible because its NOT a Christian holiday...Christmas came to be when teh Church was trying to "run the pagans out of town" so to speak...so they took our days like Yule (Pagan Xmas) and Ostara (Pagan Easter) and made them theirs for lack of a better explaination..

http://essortment.com/all/christmaspagan_rece.htm This goes in to more detail the various pagan traditions adopted by the early church. It is generally accepted that these traditions were adopted in order to convert the pagans to christianity.

I have never seen anything in the Bible about Christmas period. Where in the world people ever got the idea we are supposed to give each other gifts is beyond my understanding. I don't celebrate Christmas and haven't for many years. I get up on Christmas morning and just tell Jesus I will do my best to make this a day I remember him. I thank Him for what He did for us some 2000+ years ago and I also thank Him for being with us today. I try to get the little kids in the family a toy or two but that is the extent of my gift giving.

I figure anything I would do in respect of Jesus one day a year I need to be doing it every day. To me Christmas is the family getting together, having a good meal and enjoying each others company. The best way I know to show our love for God and Jesus is to love and respect their people. Every day is about love, not just Christmas.
