Partially because it's useful, partially because it's very helpful and fun/interesting, and partially because it's an art and a form of expression.

I enjoy programming because it's really fun to solve problems and to code stuff. It sounds geeky but it's true.

Well, it's really interesting to do programming, it's fun and sometimes it's pain too. When you get a small function works, you'll be really excited. When you learn something new in the programming, you'll feel very satisfied too. Of course, when you can't find the bugs, but there are errors, then you'll scratch your head, and hate programming. But once you get the problems solved, it's really wonderful. It's just very interesting and challenging to do programming.

It just makes me tick. I've done it since I was about 7 years old. I've always found the whole creative side of it really romantic. That sounds lame, but what I mean is...if a scuptor has a block of wood and a chisel, he can create whatever he wants. It's the same with programming. You don't need a great computer. You don't need expensive tools. It's just you and your brain against the problem, and when you've finished, you've made your mark. You've passed a little bit of yourself on.

I just want to share an experience and you will have an idea why I like programming. I remembered some years ago when I report duty to my current job, I am assigned to a team to develop a win-form based application that merely provide the same level of functionalities as it predecessor but using a different language and with a totally different UI. I was afraid. I was wondering whether that can actually be done... creating a new UI? From scratch? And guess what, after a month or so, a prototype is built with a brand new UI and it is doing exactly the thing I want it to do (though it has done a lot others that I rather it not do. :) ).... It amazed me. It actually worked!
