Could Hitler rise in today's world?

Hypothetically, in today's more sophisticated world, could a Hitler-like person, say, a radical Muslim sympathizer, violent fellows that they are, rise in a nation through secret threats of violence against, say, fellow politicians, the news media and other prominent figures, so they'd not only keep quiet but also help to boost this person's credibility and inspire more support? I've just described what I'm pretty sure happened in Nazi Germany with Hitler's bunch. He had control of an army that would do his bidding. Those prominent(and eventually ordinary) people who dared to stand against him were eliminated. What do you think? Could it happen again?

Don't think Hitler can raise again these days. People no longer follow any one blindly. Still there are many racial issues but there is no such politician in today's world. This is the media world and any thing happening will be noticed by entire world in matter of minutes. So there is no such chance.

I'm not so sure. If someone found a way to intimidate the media and other prominent people into promoting them, they could do almost anything they wanted.

It could happen and remember that Hitler presented a very loving face to the German people. I have several volumes on World War II and in one of the photos, Hitler is smiling and bending down shaking the hand of one of the Hitler youth. And I have seen propaganda movies of him with everyone smiling and he appears to be so nice. I do not think someone who makes secret threats against the news media would be able to get in, but someone who uses the media to get what he wants, who says nice words, approaches those who have his bent - i.e. if he is prominently leftist, he would approach the leftist media, if he is anti Christian, he will approach the media that are Marxist, or Atheist. So he would arise through the use of flattery and promises rather than by threats. Only when he gets enough power will he apply the threats.

That is what he did. I watched those films about Nazi spies being discovered by and there was this man or woman who said the greatest thrill was when Hitler smiled at him or her. So you can see the danger with Obama.

You are right. Kissing babies in public has always been a moving political ploy. A Hitler could certainly rise in today's world if he kept his evil side hidden well enough to publicly win the hearts of the people.

yes, it could happen again. As much as my history knowledge goes, Hitler took advantage of a German humiliation of defeat in WWI and signing of a treaty which lent a severe blow to German pride. Also the German Jews were definitely handling the lion’s share of business and commerce while German Christians were toiling away. Hitler propagated the theory of Aryan supremacy being inherent among the Germans and stoked their pride and implanted a seed of hatred against Jews and other European nations which (he theorized) conspired against German supremacy during WWI. Similarly, the Islamic world is hugely cornered and misunderstood right now. Never forget that once upon a time, the Muslims practically ruled the world and rightly so as they had a very very advance state of civilization in all spheres. Sadly, they couldn’t keep pace with time and gradually Europe and Christianity overtook them. They are still being overtaken in their own land. Israel, Afghanistan and Iraq are certainly fuels to an already raging fire and while the Islamic nations lack unity (for various reasons) to stand up to USA, sporadic incidents of violence and terrorism are further bringing bad name to Islam. I really think it’s a powder keg waiting to explode and an ideal situation for another Hitler. However, the major deterrent can be the fact that Germany was one single nation while the Islamic world is spread far and wide. We can only wait and watch with bated breath if their Islamic brotherhood can unite them against several differences.

Your points are well taken. The goal of Islam is to take over the world, but most of the counties where they are dominant have been make subject to the more liberated western nations. There's no doubt they are chomping at the bit to regain their former world status and are ripe for a leader that could unite them to do so.

i think he could because he did have a lot of charisma and the world and especially Germany was suffering from severe economic issues and Hitler came about as a 'saviour' so to speak that would wipe Germany's problems away.

Someone with a Hitler-like personality who could inspire people to believe great things are possible, and especially someone who does so without substance( doesn't indicate what kinds of changes he wants to bring about) could emotionally manipulate people into doing whatever he wants and making whatever changes he says. It has happened lots of times before.

there are chances for people to be like that.

I agree. A person who can emotionally inspire and manipulate people could arise and subdue a nation just as Hitler did.

Considering how genocides are happening right now in different countries, I think that another leader like Hitler could arise. The only difference might be that he would not be able to come about in a developed country. I think that Hitler came about and people followed him because of how dire their situations were. If we work on equalizing the world we might eliminate the possibility of this happening again. I don't have any idea how to do that though..

Considering that many people are in dire circumstances now because of the economy, home losses and natural disasters, I hope even developed countries where so many are suffering, will not be subject to the rise of Hitler-like leaders.

Do I think this could happen again? Yes, I do. The idea that we live in a sophisticated world is that of man. They think they are sophisticated. God does not think so. Imagine God looking down on us in this little world compared to how big He is and how intelligent He is. Oprah's money is like Monopoly money. It is a joke. Movie stars and musicians like Madonna thinking they own the world...He is not impressed. With God, you are either for Him or against Him. In our world of people who cling to religion, as Obama say, there are so many who don't know God. They cling to be "cool"....hey, I am cool...I am voting for who Oprah votes for and who Madonna votes for....I am sooo cool. They are blind. Hitler could walk right through the doors and dictate...and have this hot suit on, and can snap his fingers, and dance like that best, rob from the hard working to give to the lazy. They would not even notice that he is the new age Hitler...and that is just it. They don't notice it.

Absolutely possible. You don't need an army to silence your enemies. Just look at the current campaigns for president. As soon as a reporter asks Obama or Biden inconvenient questions, the media outlet he/she is from will get a notice that the Obama campaign will no longer be available for interviews etc Sometimes even the lawyers show up to threaten a law suit. Then they call their action wire and have the place bombarded with protest calls and emails. There is a reason why we so rarely hear anybody of the media questioning his motives and ideals. Look what they did to Joe the Plumber. Poor guy asked a question, didn't get a satisfactory answer, dared to show his dissatisfaction, and promptly everything is done to discredit him. Hey, the guy owes back taxes and doesn't even have a plumbing license (yet!). This guy just can't be credible. Never mind that Obama made a faux-pas and showed that his plan will not work the way he likes to have it viewed right now. Everything will be erased because the person who asked the question is a deadbeat. Right! Just think about what he could do when he is president. He thinks the constitution is faulty. He studied constitutional law, knows all about how to handle such things... I'm sure he figured out how to completely get rid of our basic rights (cause there is a way). A dictatorship here in the US... entirely possible.

I agree. As Edmund Burke said, all that is necessary for evil to truimph is that good men do nothing. I hope people will see this coming and realize they need to do something to stop it, before our constitution is thrown out like an old newspaper.
