Recessions obviously always happen, but Bush's policies ACCELERATED and WORSENED things. Recessions aren't supposed to get this bad in a stable economy--it takes some really bad planning to make it so. Things like the deregulation of vital markets was a huge part of this mess, and that deregulation occurred under Bush, so make of that what you will.

I have to say that Bush is to blame for a lot of it, especially since he has been a lame duck for most of his second term, and could have been doing something about all this four years ago if he had enough common sense to realize that we had a problem. However, this is a problem that has come about over more that just a few years, and I can't blame Bush at all for the mortgage crisis. The mortgage companies cause that one themselves. Yes, the Bush administration is to blame for part of the mess we are in, especially the gas prices and a couple of other things, but they are not totally to blame...no matter how much some people would like to say that they are...

Absolutely not - the downfall of our economy has been in the works for many more years than what Bush has been president. This decline began when as the American people became more and more dependent on credit - as they live well beyond their means to a greater and greater degree.
