when your parents are really old already, will you opt for a home for the aged or do you think they should stay with you?

I would certainly not let them stay in that kind of institution. I would love to have them in my own home even when they become hard to live with and afflicted with Alzheimer's disease. They are my parents. The reason why I'm in this world. They never threw me out even if I disappoint them sometimes. They have always loved me unconditionally. And in my heart, I know I will always love them that way too, no matter what happens.

oh, i wish my kids will be like you when they've grown. altho i'm not really expecting anything from them later and i've no plans of imposing on them. you'r parents are lucky to have you!

from that case, now i understand why someimes, a nursing home is best for some people. yes, had she stayed in your house longer, your kids will be the ones to suffer. just like you, my kids take precedence over everything and everyone else. if and when i have to make the same choices you made, i'll probably choose the same course of action you chose. thanks for enlightening me.

THEY ARE THE PARENTS AND ALWAYS WILL.........there is no qestion to raise that they will live with me or not......I WILL LIVE WITH MY PARENTS always... this new generation thinking of creating old-age homes etc etc....is going to destroyed whole paradigm of the society.......Parents are the one who have given us life...we have to live with them and for them....simply i cant leave my mom-pa

hoorah for you! i think so , too. it's really just a cycle. when you were a baby until you've grown, they were always there. when it's their turn, we do the caring for them. it's really that simple. thanks!

I want my parents to stay with me. But, I am a girl and would get married soon. So, my parents would live with my brother and his family. I would never pressurise my husband to sent his parents to an old age home. I would want them to stay with me only. If GOD Forbid and my brother sends my parents to an old age home then, he will no longer be my brother and I will try my best to conveince my husband to let them stay with us. If that is not possible I would get them a house in my neighbourhood so that I can keep an eye on them.

It would depend on the medical needs of my parents. If they need to be monitored 24 hours a day, a retirement home would probably be the best for them. If not, I would gladly welcome them into my house. I have had conversations with my parents on this topic and they are adament that they don't want to be a burden on any of their children. I just see it has my duty to my parents, the people who took care of me when I needed it.

i'm just curious. from what country are you? because here in the philippines, you can't find a lot of retirement homes. probably because it's in our culture to take care of our parents when their turn comes. thanks for the input!

i would keep my parents with me in their old age. afterall they have done so much for me. They are not objects, once you use it and throw it away. NEVER i would never do that. But some people like to have their privacy. they prefer old age homes, where they can have friends of their own age as well as freedom. so it depends on situation.

I would like to think I would be able to take them in , but I guess it wouyld depend on thier needs. If they needed better care thamn I was qualified to give them then I would look art a home. I would be very careful choosing one though and make sure I visited. There is a home just down the road from us and you see people sitting in the dining room alomne from 4am, just waiting for dinner and doing nothimng - very sad.

yeah, no matter what they did and no matter how they brought us up, they are still our parents and we owe it to them to help them in their old age. thanks for your input!
