Ok so what is the difference? I am not sure what the difference is between the two. Are they in fact different and if they are then how are they different? I do not eat these candies very often at all. Which one do you like?

M&ms are chocolate covered in hard shell candy. Smarties come in a roll and are basically little sugar candies. No chocolate.

Hmmm. Smarties here are exactly like M&M's. Chocolate covered in hard candy shell.

I just realized that they might be the same! I think they are, but I think they have different colors on the outside. This is making me go up and get some to eat. Yum...

Ahhhh........ you are in Canada, now I see why you were asking this question! They are definitely different here. Two completely different candies.

Yes, I read that, but they kept saying how smarties are like little sugar candies, which as much candy as I know, that could mean anything..I was giving you a better idea of the texture and flavor of smarties. That is, if you know what sweet tarts are...

The only real difference between M&M's and Smarties(the chocolate ones) are the fact that they are made by different candy manufacturers, so they are made with a different brand of chocolate. That is about the only difference you will find in the taste.
