Online colleges

i am a single mom and i want to return back to college. is anyone attending an online college or know someone who is and is it effective? can someone give me some names of some well-ranked accredited online schools?

i haven't personally attended any online colleges or universities. But my dad took the "bachelor of education" course through an online university. he took this course through the "university of phoenix". he did very well and told me that he enjoyed it very much. he is now teaching high school.
