You Did NOt Read My Disscussion? Your Response Proves It.

Mylotters have you ever noticed how many times a response that you read while you are responding yourself shows that the user never'really read the discussion, but just the title and guessed'at the meaning of the discussion? I saw this tonight in at least six different discussions that I responded to. The responses showed that the user was completely lost as to what'thed discussion was really all about. YOur take on this please.

Hi hatley! Yes you are completely right! I know that not everyone reads the discussions. I actually made a joke to a fellow mylotter whom we both are friends with about that very thing! I really believe that those people are just not interested in anything but posting for the money? I don't know. I don't get it. Why even bother if you aren't going to add something of substance to a discussion. It just baffles me still that people really do this. I am just amazed at how shallow people can be. What else can I say. As long as we know that we don't do it that's about all that we can do is hope that one day either they wake up or mylot kicks them out!

This happens often. The title may be misleading or one that ask a question that you are answering for the benefit of the reader... I started a discussion that way and got answers when it was a lead in to the discussion. like asking what is mud? Then in the discussion it says "I get this question often so I am going to explain exactly what kind of mud I'm talking about" Then when I read the response I see many responded with "Mud is dirt mixed with water." Sometimes the title can be something we don't understand unless we read all the discussion.

I've seen that happen quite a few times....like the person who first responded. Yes, he did start one on 'favourite colour' but it actually was about a band and not the colour. I did see a few responses mentioning what their favourite colour was.....the responders didn't go beyone the title. It happens all the time on mylot especially with people who are responding to make money and not really making friends here...or those who are not bothered to spend a few minutes to read the whole discussion so that they can spend those few minutes to respond to other mundane topics and in the process increase post count and make more money.

Yes, that's how most of them who are here for the money (not that there is much) operate.

hi little owl I meant as the poster of the discussion one sometimes sees that your responders have not all read the discussion, that is what I was talking about, I do not read all the responses to other discussions either but in order to comment back on the responses to my own discussion I do have to read each response. So you too did not pay close attention to my discussion.,he he he

I did that once, before, when I was new here. All I read was the title and I go directly to the respond to this discussion page, wrote my response and post it. But another responder and the poster commented, so I read their response. I was really ashame that time, I felt so sorry. So now, I always read the discussion first, not just the title, before giving my response.

I have seen responses like that to my own discussions before and I wonder why people don't read at least a little bit of the discussion itself to get a feel for what it's about. I know I've seen someone write a title to a discussion just for attention, and the title be different from the discussion subject, but in no way lessens the fun-ness,seriousness, or just happiness of the discussion itself. Usually the people who respond only leave a few words or one line and to me it's a waste of a response. What difference does it make?

I don't start that many discussions but when I respond, I sometimes go through the responses posted by others.. I read what others have written in their responses and have also noticed many times that the response and the discussions had nothing much in common.. I think that so many members get going so fast to try and make a few extra cents on Mylot that they don't put very much into their responses, just a quick response and it is over.. I like to read the topics, then the discussion before responding to any of them, that way I feel as if I know a little bit of what I am talking about..

It happens, that's for sure. Sometimes it isn't that they didn't read the whole discussion, but they read it while distracted by something else and their mind just didn't get the discussion but they answered it anyways. That has happened to me a time or two

Hi Yes, you are right. It happens. I was reading the other responses of this discussion and this time you can't complain. Everyone read your discussion well and accordingly replied. But I have noticed that in many cases topics and the replies don't match at all. it obviously indicate that the person who replied didn't either read or understand the meaning of the discussion properly. Although, in most of cases, people do read and reply. In some cases they don't read properly but send a reply. The 3rd case is that here at mylot, there are people with varying knowledge about the english language. That generates irrelevent replies in many cases. I sometimes also fail to understand properly the actual meaning of the discussion. Anyway, you topic will certainly make people more concerned about what they are writing. Happy mylotting.

hi tapnaroy12 yes my friends here pretty well obey mylot rules, I have a great bunch of friends too. i know some of this may be because some users have English as a second language andthat makes it hard sometimesto understand.

First I want to say, if you find their answer is something about your title and nothing about your content, that at least means: 1.your title is not good enough to fit the content of your post, 2. the one who response just want to get some benefit from their effort to response. Or there might be a third possible: that they misunderstood you? Those people exists, and you might misunerstood other people too, so why care about that so much?

hi ia mfine mylot rules ask that we read all the discussion and they mention that we may use a provocative title to draw interest and that does not mean you should skip reading the discussion and no I was not complaining about my discussions, if you read my discussion yourself you would see I am talking a bout seeing these responses to other peoples discussions and wondering why they had not bothered to read the discussion. It made me wonder why people do not read all the discussion. And the discussions I was responding to were really easy to read and to understand.

Hi, there! I do have read your discussion before I respond. Just kidding. I think it is courteous to read the discussuin before you respond, right? I am newbie here and not a native English speaker. I want to improve my English, so I read all the discussion I have responded, and even another person's answer. I found reading is interesting, some people here are really funny, their words are really interesting. I like to read them. And sometimes, some discussion I cannot understand that I would not answer it, because I do not what to say.

well luckily i havent received responses that a lot more different or did not get the jest of what im trying to express..but i had read some when im still new here when some members just respond without thinking and not even answering the real issue...maybe just to earn more points or whatever..it surprises me even more when some even responded in question like sentenced or just greet or type some quotes in respond to it...

You're right, I think they have not understood the discussion well and therefore did not respond correctly. I think time is the main factor here. They are so many discussions to go through in a day that by just reading the title they did not bother to read the contents of the post. That defeat the purpose of the discussion if they only based on the title to respond.

I've noticed this as well. However most of my friends seem to read my discussion, so I guess it is just important who you select as friends. I also think that the language barrier creates problems on mylot. They may read your post but not understand what you mean.

Once I responded to a post where the original poster had asked a question and after I answered, I realized that while it was an appropriate response to his question, I may have misunderstood what he was asking. So I did go back and add to my response to better answer. Oh well, no one is perfect, but I can see that it could be bothersome when the response is way off base. I mean, how can you really answer when you do not know what you even read?

well i am guilty of this sometimes. usually i will only read the first post and would read the other posts after that. then ill realize , that my reply was just the same with the rests or irrelevant. you can blame some people (like me).
