I have seen so many people calling Obama a socialist when he is clearly a capitalist that I wonder what people think socialism means. I know that the oxford dictionary defines socialism as a “theory or policy of social organization which advocates the ownership and control of the means of production, capital, land, property etc by the community as a whole, and their administration or distribution in the interests of all”.
Now that is not what Obama is advocating in his talk about spreading the wealth but people consistently call this idea of taxing the rich to help the poor to be socialist. So tell me what does the word socialism mean to you?

There is an actual Socialist Party in this country. I think the fact that its candidate feels his views are being distorted when McCain calls Obama a socialist pretty much says it all, no?

I have to agree with the oxford dictionary. When the government controls the economy, business productions and all aspects of business that to me is socialism. But, hey what do I know I only have a business degree lol

Ah but we know the real meaning and I have tried to explain the definition to people in a few discussions here so I thought I give them a chance to actually say what they think.
. I am eagerly awaiting this election to see if people embrace change or go down the path of self destruction.
