Take just one... or a handful?

We don't get trick or treaters where I live now, but when we did have them I would give out one chocolate candy and a few smaller ones like suckers or smarties to each child. Towards the end of the night I would start giving out a little bit more if I still had a bunch leftover.

I bought individually wrapped licorice to hand out and the teenager did that chore. The first kid, she grabbed a big handful and I had to tell her not to do that, as you never know how many kids will show up. So, after that she handed them out two at a time. For the first time in years I actually had kids come knocking at my door. Good thing I remembered to buy some candy

In the beginning I was just giving two pieces, one lollipop and one piece of gum to each child. Then we took our daughter around the neighborhood. I should have given the neighbors my bowl to hand out but didn't. There were still quite a few trick or treaters when we got back though. My daughter is only 2 so we didn't stay out long. By the end of the night I was giving small handfuls.

I prefer when people give a set amount of candy. I went yesterday, and several just held out a bowl. I only took one but some of my friends took 2 - 3 pieces. I'm not sure how many they wanted to give us so I guessed 1 would be polite. Hehe 5-6 candies!? How cute. I think I would give more to the younger kids if I were giving out, and give them myself. At least though, most people don't just leave the bowl out.. even some still do. Cause, kids take like 3 to ALL of it :x
