Being a Hindu Bengali born and raised in the UK I have to admit my loyalties are split as to which festival I enjoy the most. I would say I enjoy Durga Puja and Christmas as much as each other to be honest. Durga Puja goes on for a week and it's a time to get dressed up and attend functions in the evening (as most of us work during the day) and meet with friends - some of which we see often and some of which we only see once a year at Puja. Christmas on the other hand is a time when our office is closed from 24th December to 2nd January and this is a lovely time of year for me. I enjoy the various Christmas parties we attend, work, friends and family parties. I enjoy the time off to relax at home as normally I take time off work to go away for a holiday. This is also a time when there are a lot of Sales starting in the shops so it's a great time to go hunting for a new bed or wardrobe or desk or book shelf, etc. The atmosphere here in London at Christmas is fabulous and I really enjoy listening to cheesy Christmas songs on the radio and watching the same old Christmas films on TV. So all in all, being British Asian I have the best of both worlds, being able to celebrate to the max both Hindu and Christian festivals and I feel no guilt about celebrating either - I was brought up by my parents to enjoy both sets and I'm very glad I do :)

I like Deepavali the most because I love the lights and fireworks and the goodies my mom used to make.

Hello mitraa, my favorite festival is also Dussera and Durgapuja like your choice. This is because I have a good liking for Durgapuja from my childhood. At my native place this festival is celebrated near my house also. Thank you for this discussion.

Hi I'm an Hindu bengali. So obviously my most favorite festival is 'Durga Puja'. This festival gives me a chance to meet my relatives who stays at different places. In fact this is the festival which still keeps me binding with the family members. Durga Puja is so special to us that whatever be the reason, we can't stay at home after evening. We must go out and visit different Durga Pujas. It's a time to have some fun and relax, also it's the best time to share bengali's favorite snacks - sweets (cow milk based) - with friends and relatives. Yes, I like other hindu festivals like nava ratri. It's so colorful. And also dussera.
