In Australia, we are very much a multi-cultural society/country. English is our main language and is what is used in the schools, government law courts etc. Having said that I have to add that just about every other language is spoken here as well by those who migrated here from another country, foreign students, visitors etc. Of course there will be times when people find difficulty with the language. If you are planning to migrate here to Australia then you will need to pass an English test. If you don't attain a certain level, then you will not be granted a permanent resident visa or be allowed to enter our country. If you are planing to come as a tourist then it is a bit different as speaking English is not one of the requirements to obtain a temporary/visitors visa. Not speaking English could make it a bit difficult to understand and be understood of course but for decades people have been travelling to countries whose language they do not know and yet have a wonderful holiday.

I don't know much about Australia. I just learn some from the textbook. It is a amazing land and tourists' destination. English is the official language. Is Chinese widely spoken there? somehow it is a melting pot, like the USA. tonight, I maybe dream a dream in which I am in that land. When can I go abroad to see the beautiful scenery with my own eyes? I am expecting...
