What I Like About Halloween

In our country, we don't do the "trick or treat" way donned in complete horror costumes...seldom do we find that here. What I like about November 1 and 2 is not the Halloween costume party like most people around the world do. What I like is the family reunion and the gathering of family members at the ....yes, cemetery. Yesterday, thousands of people and families trooped to the cemetery to celebrate All Saints Day and All Souls Day. We pray, we talk about the good old days, a time of renewing old ties with family members. Of course, praying for the repose of the soul of the dearly departed is part of the ritual, offering candles and flowers, but most importantly, it was a time for family members to reunite. That's what we did yesterday and it was exhilarating. I valued every minute of family members being together in rare moments like this. We agreed to meet again as a family on December 24, to celebrate Christmas in our place. What about you, how meaningful are Halloweens to you? Please share....

I know this is an old discussion but I just spotted it and thought I'd add my input to it. I'm not really a fan of Halloween to be honest. I don't like the horror costumes aspect of it and I never open my door to anyone on 31st October unless it's someone I'm expecting and as Guy Fawkes is just 5 days later on 5th November fireworks are just going off all the time and they make me nearly jump out of my skin lol (some of my friends say I was a cat in my last life)! I do like the idea though of renewing ties with family and remembering those that have departed. I glad you enjoyed the family gathering and hope Christmas was just as enjoyable. x
