Do you still drink tap water? water straight from the faucet? Sine 2003 when I got pregnant with my first born son, I stopped drinking water from the faucet, instead we buy mineral water, distilled water, ionized, ozonize or what ever kind of treated water there is. We usually buy the blue gallon with a faucet attached to it. My kids also can't drink tap water. I tried once but my stomach got bad and I experienced a bad head ache. Now that my kids are older and sometimes when we visit my mother, they drink the water straight from the faucet, my mom says it is Ok since my 2 year old nephew drinks from the water too (and some test had been done to their water and it is safe and in fact it is ionized, no idea though what it means ) oh well since my kids can drink it I thought to myself that maybe I can too.. Last weekend we went to visit my mother in law and they prepare a nice meal for us, and I brave their water and drink it. Nothing happened to me and so I thought.MInutes after my head starts to ache but I just ignore it thinking it was just the heat. After that we went to visit my mom and siblings which is a 4 hour drive. Stop by at a gasoline station at the NLEX and bought Frap. Some times later I notice that my head ache is worsening and then I vomit, the food I ate from my in laws, I throw it all up. I think I throw up the whole time we were traveling. MY stomach aches and I still throw up and suddenly it hit me that the reason why my head aches and why I am throwing is up is because I drank a tap water. Oh my I can't really express how much hard it was for me, I keep on throwing up and nothing came out but liquid. When I was finished my head ache disappears almost instantly, this happens a lot to me when I ate something my stomach can't tolerate, my head aches so hard and the only thing that can stop it is I throw up whatever the food that makes me sick. Form throwing up a lot now my jaws aches. [i][b] I would like to know guys, do you still drink water from the faucet or are you like me who can't tolerate it? that we always buy treated water? We have installed a water purifier in our house and drink water which has been purified by ionisation and reverse osmosis. Although we get treated water in the taps, we still purify it so that we do not get any diseases and are able to stay healthy.

We have a well. There is a motor in the well, and the motor pumps up the well water into an overhead tank, which is connected to all rooms of the house via iron pipes to the end of which is a tap. We drink boiled and cooled well water. So far, we haven't purchased any drinking water. Cheers and happy mylotting

In my apartment and in my mother's home... we do not drink tap water... we always buy the distilled or ionized or ozonized kind... that has been the case eversince water stations became popular... when they were not... we boiled the water that we drink... one coming from the faucet... since we are not really sure if the are safe or not... But in my in-laws house... they still drink tap water... and i do drink that when i am there... and i never had a problem about it... but my daughter has her own supply of water when she is there... since she might not be able to take tap water as when she drinks bottled water...

Yeah, back home in Laguna I still drink tap water. None from my family members even my daughter got sick from drinking on it. Here in US...we still do the same. We drink in a faucet though it's a filtered one. I guess it's not really safe to drink tap water in Manila (if you live there). Better to just buy them mineral water. I think it cost like P35 right?

that was a lot of throwing up, could not imagine how the other passenger reacts from your constant throwing up. maybe there are some foods that you ate along the way that makes your stomach sick, you kow maybe food poisoning, you never know how the food are cooked and it might have triggered some reactions at your digestive system. be careful next time. I still drink water from the fauceet, my stomach is great and I cantolerate almost anything, even tried drinking water from s stream and nothing happens.

Tap water?! No! definitely not. At home we have our water purifier. That's what I drink. Taking tap water could be risky. There may be particles of dirt or even bacteria there. so go for distilled or purified water=)

I have been drinking tap water all my life and I have never had any problems with it.To my way of thinking its all in the mind.I have tried mineral water and other assortments of bottled water and I cant feel any difference.I sometimes feel it is just a scam from the bottled water people to relieve gullible people of their hard earned cash.Incidently I do live in a place that has some of the best tap water in the world.!!!LOL!!!

It sounds like you got some kind of food poisoning. Or maybe your fears of drinking tap water are so deep that you can make yourself physically ill without realizing it. We drink tap water here, we have a well that is fed by a natural underground spring. The water is awesome and I cannot stand city water. I know we're lucky, many people who have wells have terrible water. The village I live in once offered to pay part of the costs of hooking us up to city water in the next town over and not one person did it.

My family drinks only "filtered" water (bought from a local drinking water-filtering station). Anyway, I still drink tap water nowadays because "bottled" (filtered, mineral, or distilled) water is expensive here in the UK. Note that tap water is "treated" with chlorine (to kill bacteria or microbes). So, I doubt if you develop health problems whenever you drink tap water. It is the food that you ate that most probably caused your head ache and your throwing up. If, on the other hand, you drank water from a waterpump/deep well ("poso"), then it is more plausible (because it is untreated). There are food that upset your digestive system when eaten in combination with other type of food. So, try to recall what sort of food you ate when you experienced those symptoms that you mentioned. Likewise, sometimes, it could be psychological. Because you are worried that tap water would be harmful to you, your mind tells your system to react accordingly whenever you do drink tap water. And so you develop these symptoms.

I think it is the water since I am used to drinking mineral or distilled or whatever they call it, which they say strips off the water of its other component, maybe the components on the tap water is much that my digestive system is not now used to it..

Well, only you can tell which is the possible culprit. The previous post may be right in saying that your stomach (your digestive system) must have been depleted of certain "immunity" from drinking tap water because you have been drinking filtered/distilled water for a long time already. I remember a town in Lanao Del Sur. I saw the local residents there drinking from a "brown" river (yaiks) but they seemed alright. It was like drinking a choco-milk (heheh). So, definitely, they have already developed immunity against any ill effects of drinking from a filthy river.

eversince i was a child we drank from our water pump especially that it was how many feet below ground level which we all know is very safe & natural. but then eversince i moved out from our province & lived in a city where pump wells are no longer used, i have already made it a point never to drink from the faucet. like you, i also have experienced something bad that happened due to drinking water form the faucet. my stomach usually can tolerate anything but it was something from the water i drank form the faucet that made it bad. so eversince i would buy distilled or mineral water from h20 stations or if not i would boil it before drinking. happy mylotting!

uhuh! i think it also has a psychological effect for me when i get water from the faucet... coz i always think that the water from faucets are those good for bathing only... especially that our sink faucet is the same with that of our bathroom faucet, lol.

yes i do drink water straigh from the faucet, i think your stomach does like water comming straight from the faucet. for babies it is not safe to drink from the faucet, his immunity system is not that strong he will get sick. but if you are 10 to 50, your immunity system are buildup you can now take some of the germs in the water from the faucet, so maybe your stomach is not used to the water from the faucet.

I think it is impossible to drink directly from the faucet here in the Philippines because many diseases such as cholera are brought about by doing this. An evident thing is that many water-refilling stations are available in our country.
@24Champ (465)

Not exactly. The tap water (at least those distributed and/or regulated by the MWSS) is treated with chlorine at safe levels to kill any forms of disease-causing microbes. Although contamination can happen along the way.

Yeah, contamination can happen along the way and that is what i'm referring to. :) .. A leak on the faucet maybe or on the pipe lines or something.

Poor you. What a terrible experience. I drink tap water in the UK and although it is very hard where we live in Essex, the water doesn't make you sick. Mind you, I have had some meals make me sick! haha I have drunk all sorts of water in my time; well water as a child on my grandfather's farm (such sweet water); water from a lake in Africa where small creatures swam happily in it as you drank (I was very thirsty); water from a car radiator (terrible thirst again - horrid taste but it saved me!) Maybe I'm lucky and all that rubbish water has immunised me?

there was a time when i got amoebiasis from the water that i drank directly from the taps. i got hospitalized. my two young daughters, aged 4 and 7 also followed me to the hospital becaused they also got amoebiasis. we stayed in the hospital for about 4 days. from then on, i never drink water directly taken from the faucet. it has to be mineral water for me, though my 2 daughters had recovered well and can now tolerate tap water.

I basically am no fan of water, but I drink it because I know that my body needs it. If I am at home I will normally drink filtered tap water. If I am out I will buy bottled water just because its convient. As I am sure you are aware there are NO regulations for what can be bottled as far as water is concerned. There have been many, many studies to show that what was sold or packaged as spring, distilled, mineral etc has been little more than "cleaned" up tap water if that. There have been many studies that show that the bottled water can have as many contaminates or more than the tap water. As least the water department has some regulations that should be followed while the companies that bottle and sell water have absolutely none. Basically, legally these companies can scoop the water from the toilet and bottle it with no consequences. In your case it could be that the tap water made you sick, but it seems that if that were the case maybe the whole family would have gotten sick or even some type of outbreak in the neighborhood. It's also a possiblity that it was a coincident that during the time that you drank the water that you had some type of virus or something in the food made you sick. You could have had a migraine headache, I suffer from migraine headaches and whenever I get one, I always have throwing up and dry heeves as some of the after effects of the migraine.

We have our own well water and we test it every few months. But I know what you mean about traveling, when I go somewhere I always take water with me, there is nothing worse then being sick on a trip.

i still use tap water... but never straight from the tap. i have a brita filter that filters out the impurities. i do this because i find that regular tap water has a really gross taste to it. also, i'm pregnant now and i can smell the chlorine and other additives in tap water. it smells awful. so, i strictly only use the brita filter or buy bottled water. i never drink just plain tap water

I did, but about six years ago we started drinking mineral water. This is because after the typhoon and flood that year, we found out that the water that we used to drink became contaminated. That time, we started to buy our drinking water. After that, I tried to drink water from the faucet and like you, I had a stomach ache. I was not able to report to work that day. From then on, I never tried drinking water from the faucet again. Better safe than sorry.
