The body is a reflection of the mind. The body develops, shapes and functions according to the quality of our emotions and thoughts. How far do you think this is true in your case ?

From an attitude and mental quality of life perspective I could not agree more but I am not overly convinced from a physical angle. Many professional trainers of sportspeople rely very heavily on visualization for their athletes alongside standard physical training methods and will swear by it's effectiveness; but I do feel that the success they achieve with these approaches is still more to do with mental attitude conditioning rather than an instance of the body responding physically to such techniques. "Functions" is the prominent area here as far as I am concerned. If we were able to control mass and physical development in general by the mind alone then there would be no actual physical exercise required! But the mastering of our thoughts and embracing the "What the mind believes, the body achieves" mentality, we can inspire ourselves to reach new heights and push the limits of our bodies with direct physical results being achieved. Personally I always try to maintain a positive and energetic mindset which in turn motivates me in my day to day life; but I do also realize that the only way for me to bodily improve myself is to accompany these mindsets with actual physical exercise and activity!

The physical angle comes in when the body follows the mind. In the very same example that you have given, keeping the positive mindset and motivation fowwlowed by the exercises will give the desired results. The action element has to be there. Thanks James.

This is true in my case. I don't know if you're really talking about the physical body here but I'm going to talk more about what I think and how that had affected or influenced me the last year. After graduation, I went on this funk thinking that I could not do things I want to. And for a long while, that's what happened to me. It was a self-prophecy. But then I told myself that I could and I did and now I am doing things that I want. It's all in the mind. The body needs rest and relaxation now and then but we can do what we will ourselves to.

100%.I can say that because I am experiencing it everyday. You think you are smart some one pass a comment you look smart. You think you look shabby someone tells you that you look dull today. You wear a smile and definitely some one to comment 'Hi what's up .You seem to be on top of the world'. I am very positive that I can instill a desired image of mine in anybody's mind with my mind.

Absolutely Alok!! The body, most certainly, is the reflection of the mind. A happy soul begets a happy body. people who are generally happy kind have a charming body which is always doing happy things. We can make out by his movement, gesture, the way he moves and lives his life. On the contrary, a sad person is slow, depressed and carries a hollow face all the time. I have found that on many occasions when I have tried to to overcome my depressive bouts, I felt much better physically as well. Like when we kinda lie down on bed for a long time due to sickness we start to get morose and weak physically as well and that's reflected on our face. So when I am feeling weak emotionally, I try to shred off the glooms and say to myself, a lazy mind has a lazy fate. These are my mother's words. This essentially means that a lazy mind is bound to have lazy bone and a weak destiny.

Very true Mimpi, A happy mind, leads to lesser stress, better focus, even slows down the aging process to some extent. On the other hand negative thinking does result in draining away our energy, we feel the lethargy, tha laziness. The exercise the body recieves reduces thereby affecting the overall shape and form. Thanks a lot for this.

hello, alokn99.. personally, it is so true for me. as i am a basically emotional person, i've learned how to strengthen my family ties by "choosing" my responses (esp. when i'm angry or irritated over my siblings..) numerous studies have been conducted that proves that our mind is really a powerful tool in shaping our bodily functions and controlling our responses.. many cancer survivors have also shared their testimonies about how powerful their mindset has helped them overcome their illness.. on my personal quest in "anger management," i chanced upon the book "You Are What You Think" by David Stoop. it's a very informative, enlightening reference material and is one of the tools that helped me gain a new 'take' on my emotions.. happy myLotting!

Sometimes this is true for me when I am mad. Generally I am very good at turning my emotions off even though I am a very emotional person. I have learned how to control how I feel becuase my ex would continously call me a baby or tell me that I was whiing even if it was just an opinion. I also don't like people to know that I am hurting or that I am upset. My ex somehow tricked me into believing that emotions are a weakness.

Hi Certainly mind has a great role in deciding the condition of physicalself. Since ancient time, people emphasised the necessity of meditation to improve mental health. By improving the mental health, physical health also improved. Particularly stress, anger related sickness are fully controlled by our mind and our body has no role other than helplessly respond badly. Mind power or inner strenght is important to fight against any kind of disease. This mind power is nothing but the vital universal energy flowing into our body and keeping fit to survive. A dying person has no or ery low mind power. So, i can tell you that I fully agree -- mind rules the body
