Circuit City announced that they will be closing 155 stores natonwide (including the one closest to me) in an effort to remain profitable. It surprises me that they would close the stores right before Christmas season, but everyone seems to be feeling the pinch and vwill probably not be spending as much. Is your family cutting back this year?

You would think that they would at least wait until the holidays were over, I could not imagine laying off that many workers this close to christmas. Doing something like that this time of year is just greedy, I would not imgine to owners to find more than coal in their stockings. I have been cutting back a bit in my household. I have been using more cupons, buying cheaper brands and not alowing as much junk food in the house since it seems to cost the most. I have tried to not have to cut back any as far as my christmas shopping goes, that is one thing I will stay true to no matter how profitable it is.

Yes we will be cutting back. My husband and I are not going to buy presents for each other this year we are going to use it for the kids. They will not be getting as much as they usually do as it is costing a fortune just to put food on the table. They understand that being fed and keeping the heat on is more important than material things like toys this year though hopefully this economy will shape up by next Christmas at least gas prices are going down now.

You're right. Everyone is feeling the pinch and I think everyone is cutting back including me. Value City filed Bankrupcy last week and their stores are all closing too. I hate to see them go out of business but the one here is having a great sale right now. ALso Steve & Barry's sold out to another company and a lot of their stores are closing too. Everything in that store is 2 for $10.00 right now. Sad part is, it will get worse before it gets any better if it does!

In my economics class, we just talked about stores closing. The economy can only support a certain amount of competition in one area. We have many stores like Circuit City (Best Buy, Radio Shack, even Sears), so one of them is bound to have to cut back. I've had very few Christmases when my parents just went all out, so this year I won't feel anything too different. Now that I'm living on my own, I know that I probably won't have extra money for gifts. If I can afford gifts, I'll probably wait until after Christmas to buy them since everything is cheaper then anyway...
