Don't confuse the action of government involvement as Islamic rule on a topic. Yes it is not "okay" that a woman sit with a male but being thrown in jail? Err no. That is something between herself, her husband, and importantly God. Not some jail warden. Islam demands respect for a woman. What do you think the headscarf (hijab) is? It is so that she is seen as a person by men not some object. It is a sign of modesty. It isnt some rule thrust upon women. Even the topic of spousal abuse... absolutely never is it okay for a husband to lay his hand on his wife, imagine that in Islam it is said to be okay if he hits her with a straw a single stray and with the condition it is not to hurt her leave marks on her! A wife has the right to leave her husband if he can not have children it isnt just a right for the man. A woman has the right to get an education and a job and do everything and anything that a man is allowed. Muslim countries or Muslims that say it is wrong are just furthering their own agendas and are living in the past. If a husband is unfaithful she has a right to leave his --- ahem... =P Islam gives many rights to women it's just that people who claim to enforce Islamic laws do so incorrectly and care not about the true essence of Islam.

Ah! But Saudi Arabia is the arch proponent of Wahabi islam and operates the country on Sharia law. It is a pretty feeble argument that Islam is not responsible and that the custodians of Sharia, Mecca and Medina apply Islamic law incorrectly.

So America applies Christian laws correctly? Seriously... Presidents, Dictators, etc.. make their own laws to meet their own ends in the long run... Mecca is an important location for Muslims from all over the globe... but that doesn't mean that those that rule Saudi Arabia are God sent and perfect. They are as imperfect as any other person in power. No they do not apply correct Islamic law. You ignored all of what i told you above how interesting.

nadooa247, Thank you for the comment. However I am sure you know that the US is a secular country. Its constitution guarantees religious freedom though. Moslems have their Sharia law and that has been written down. However most western countries there is a very firm separation between the State and the Church. In muslim countries there is no separation between the Islamic religion and the state. It might interest you to know that a Muslim professor in Germany has revealed that the person we know as the Prophet Mohammed never existed. yes i think the people who believe such teachings that they learn from this book should have the sense that this is not right, I don't care how many generations they have been fed this rubbish, people are smart enough to know when men have obviously set their little world up to suit them selves and i say any woman who lets herself be treated less than any man is a fool...thats a man thing, made by men only for the benefit of men and has nothing to do with religion....lilaclady steps off her soapbox..
