Chrysler Idled? closed?

Does the Uaw contract keep Chrysler from closing a plant during the contract? Meaning if it wasn't marked for closure in the contract it can't be quote"closed"? If so , is that why they term SLPS"idled"? just curious, because when the announcement was made it would be idled, Tom Lasorda was quoted as saying he saw "no circumstances that ST. louis South would run again".
