Well I was busy this morning/afternoon after voting bright and early.
As this photo shows I've put up my Christmass lights outdoors.
I have icicle lights along the edge of the garage doors as well as along the eave of my house and the edge of my front deck. I have multi color/function lightsd along the eave of the garage and across the fence shown in this photo as well. Then I have lights strung on the perimiter of my whole front yard as well.
This is a late start for me in Minnesota, it's been so warm I kept putting it off.
Normal temps are 40 for this day.
Yesterday was 74 and today it is about 60 right now.
I will not turn them on though until Thanksgiving Day.
Unless we get a huge snowfall that is.
They are beautiful during a snowstorm etc.
So have you put your outdoor lights up yet?
Is it to avoid the cold weather attempting to get them up in a hurry?
Do you even decorate at all with outdoor lights?
Do you have other outdoor decorations other than lights?
I do not have anything but a lot of lights.

No, we will not have Christmas lights up yet. as code enforcement will give us a large fine. As they say it is tacky to have them up and it is not a holiday for them to be lite up. is that the stupist thing you ever heard or what?

Nope, one family man use to do this. The code enforcement gave him a large fine because it was July out. I am not talking about a little fine. But more like a couple thousand dollar fine. He no longer puts up any Christmas displays. His house use to b the one to visit in the neighborhood.

We don't do any Christmas stuff until at least Thanksgiving weekend..Last year I waited even later because most of my stuff was still packed away and there is also Hanukkah we go through before Christmas..This year, we may put up the lights around Thanksgiving, along with the tree, the big things, but the little things will wait until at least the second day of Hanukkah is over..As for what we do have, we have some outdoor lights, on the bushes and/or the house. And this year, because we have hooks up to make putting them up easier, it won't matter how cold it is, we can get it done quickly enough..

I do the lights in mid October usually due to cold and snow here.
But the lights usually donj't get turned on till Thanksgicing Day at the earliest.
Our tree is set up right around turkey day as well.
We have an artificial tree.
Kind of hard setting it up with dads walker etc.
Not a lot of room for him to get by.

Oh, okay, that is different then, no lights turned on until later..
As for your Dad and getting around the tree, maybe for now, you should get a little tree, one that fits on a table, that way you can still have a tree, but not one that is in your Dads way..

We manage with a tree.
We just set it in the corner of the living room is all.
Not really in his way.
Unless he happens to fall near it that is.

We dont put up Christmas lights outside anymore. When all my kids were still living at home My husband had all kinds of lights outside and in the inside.
He dont like going outside when it so darn cold out and take the lights down after Christmas. And I dont want to do it either.
I do put up my Christmas tree right after Thanksgiving.

We put up lights around the front and sides of the house some times but no other decorations outside. A few times we also put a lot of lights in the tree out front. Not sure yet if we will put them up this year or not. We use the multi colored lights.

I bought these icicle lights last year the day after Christmas.
They cost 50 cents a set.
I have 4 sets on the house, garage, and deck all told.
Can't beat that price huh?

Yesterday was absolutely beautiful for November 3rd.
74 is unreal huh?
Today started out nice but now we have a copol northerly breeze.
The skies are getting dark from a storm approaching.
Rain for a couple days then rain/snow mix.
I can't wait for plain snow and cold though.
I hate trying to untangle the lights when it's cold as the wires are hard to move around actually.
That's why I do mine early.

At least you'll be ready to flip the switch when its time. I put out some lights, not a whole lot, we don't have any outdoor receptacles except in the garage so I always have to string an extension cord from there, but I won't put those up till around the first of December, if I feel like it that is, just depends on if I'm in the Christmas spirit. I don't put my tree up till the middle of December but I keep it up till New Year's.

Hmm, never thought to do it that way..my husband has lights and extension cords running in almost every window and when it is cold the duct tape he puts over it doesn't help much. So I will suggest that he tries it easier to flip a switch them plug up all the lights. We will have to get a screw in light with plug ins though since we don't have one.

I have one of those screw in plug things.
It screws into the porch light and it has 3 outlets on it.
So I switch my outdoor porch light on and all the lights in front go on.
The garage has just 2 sets of lights attatched to an extension cord.

You are smart to put them up early before the weather gets bad. We haven't done ours yet but we should as the weather here has been really good. But its hard to get the motivation to do it so early. I only have lights to put up outside. Someday I want to get those big blow up things. I like to mostly decorate the inside but I won't do that until probably early December.

GRATS!
I can imagine theres a lot of places with oprdinances etc like yours.
Places that are run by an association as well like townhomes etc.
I would hate that as my lights are on each night at dark from Turkey day till New Years day.

I love the way you dive right into the Christmas season, Grandpa Bob. I'm looking forward to seeing many more photos of all of your lights, and decorations. We don't put up any outdoor lights, as it's too hard for me to do by myself. I do have a door hanging though, that's usually up by late November, or early December. Then of course we have our artificial tree, with all of the lights, and a collection of ornaments I've gathered over the years. We have various other indoor decorations too, including a village which lights up. I truly love this time of the year, and the different aspects of the celebration. Take care.
By the way, it'll soon be time for you to start stocking up on your holiday candy. Are you going to get your ribbon candy this year?

Thank you very much.
The photos look best when there's snow on the gorund though.
But I will get a shot before then I am sure.
But of course I'll have Ribbon Candy.
In fact this weekend I am going to look for some early.
Can't wait till late in the season as it goes fast.
Thanks again.

I get my spirit from my mom as well.
She would drive the 3 hours to stay a few
days just to enjoy my lights and other decorations.

You definitely have the Christmas spirit, which I find quite refreshing. I think it's sad when so many seem to find no joy in it anymore. Even when the times are tough, our family has always found something to celebrate. My mom used to love Christmas too, and she always made it special for us, no matter what.
Wow. I'm starting to wax philosophical here, Grandpa Bob. I owe this early Christmas start to you. I'd better stop before I become quite emotional.

They have clips that either slide under the shingles or hook ontop the gutters.
These keep the l;ights in place during snow melt and winds.
They work for me anyhow.

Oh no! Not you too? I was complaining in a discussion of mine how they are pumping Christmas carols in stores. Think it's way too soon, and here you are putting lights up..LOL Gosh, I still have most of my Halloween stuff around. I plan to change it around a bit to suggest a Thanksgiving theme. I think my black kitty Pyewacket is annoyed I took down my Halloween door decorations down which included a black cat...don't think he was pleased I took it down..LOL

You are a wise man, Grandpa Bob. So smart to do that job this early before the weather gets so cold.
Looking forward to a picture when you finally light them.

Well there have been years where there was so much snow and cold temps it took 10 times longer top set the lights up. It has been so nice I waited till now. The cold is pushing closer now though to us in Minnesota. Back into the 30's for highs this weekend then on and on and on.

Hi grandpa! I will be having my baby Dec 10. So we are trying to get alot done early. We are still doing the new baby room. The goal is to have the tree up this weekend. And then the lights shortly there after. Our weather has been lovely too. I hope it holds til my hubby gets to the lights. We have a few little things for the outdoors other than the lights. Will be getting more at the "after" sales. Kind of an every year habit.

My husband left all the lights up from last year now they have to be replaced because of the cats and kids one pulling on them and one chewing. We don't usually put up lights till after Thanksgiving and we usually put up the tree at that time also. We got a pre-lighted White tree this year at 6 1/2 foot. Thankfully I won't have to worry about untangling lights to wrap around the tree. We usually do the whole porch from top to bottom my husband covers the whole thing and then outlines the whole trailer and makes star and trees with light on the trailer and we cover the Rose of Sharon we have in our yards as well. He does it more for the neighbor kids then anything since we have none of out own yet.

No I have not put lights up yet. I did not put them up last year I am not sure I will put them up this year.
I will be getting my tree out, I usually do not do it until December, I do not like the tree up for very long. I just rearranged my living room the other day so I am not sure where I will put it this year.
Do you put your tree in the same spot all the time or do you move it.

Hello Grandpa Bob. It is nice to have some Christmas lights outdoors. I live in an apartment and do not have one outside the door, but I have two bunches of colorful lights and I hang them in my bedroom. I love the colorful lights in the bedroom as they make me feel warm on cold days. Have a good day, Bob.

That's going to be beautiful! I probably should work on putting my lights up while it's not snowing.
My trouble is, I plug them into my front porch light because I have no outside outlets. This summer, my porch light fell off the house and I think it's because of the siding that was put on last year, the screws weren't in far enough because they added a decorative plate that made it match the siding. It hung there for a few days before I figured out I needed longer screws and fixed it up. I'm concerned that maybe the wiring was damaged and was afraid to use it because of fire but on beggar's night I left it on for two hours while I gave out candy and nothing happened. Do you think it's safe to use it? I didn't see any frayed wires.

Wow you are starting early, my decorations do not go up until about the middle of december! In fact I started to think about them today when I was in a shop and they had all christmas decs in there. I saw a really modern christmas tree that I might invest in this year instead of the traditional one. Anyway, slightly off track there but I do not put lights up outside the house, I shoud do really because I have the most beautiful tree in the garden and it looks just like a christmas tree, but I worry about the electric costs because we just cannot afford it! You are lucky with your temps, it sounds so warm for you we are at 48 here today which actually is warmer than it has been but is still cold.
