I recently signed up for something that "gave" me $2.00. It showed up in my account. But I checked my account this morning and I have the wrong password. I just now pieced it together, I remember it asking for an 8-letter password(Just like paypal), So I used the same password as I use for paypal(Stupid, Stupid me!). Now Someone has my verified paypal account which is directly connected to my parents credit card. Is it possible to cancel the account without the password, or will my parents have to cancel the card? Thanks to anyone who can help, Luke Happy 15th Birthday to me.

This sounds a little worrying. I know I am having a great deal of difficulty trying to verify my account at the moment...they have all my details but my verification is waiting on a security code they say they have sent to me although it has been three weeks and still no letter. I am concerned it has been lost in the post. In your case just to be on the safeside I would get your parents to cancel their card. As far as I know to be able to cancel your account you have to be able to login and if your password has been altered this may prove to be a little difficult. By your parents cancelling their card a new one will probably be sent out to them within the week and you can rest assured that this hacker or whoever it is can't access their account.

If you are talking about paypal waiting for a verification # from you, they are waiting for the deposit amounts in the bank account you attached to your paypal account. When you sign up and add your bank, paypal makes two small deposits in your personal checking account. Only you should be able to tell them the amounts they deposited. Check your bank account for all deposits, the two small ones will be from paypal, then go to your account on paypal, hit the verify account button and add the amount of each seperate deposit. That should be it. Let me know if that helped.

Thanks for infomation but have already completed this step it's the next step i'm stuck on. They said they've sent letter with security number which when I recieve I will have to key into their site...but it's been three weeks and still no letter. Have been told the only way I can do this now is by letting them charge my bank card then the security number will be printed on my bank statement and I will have to key in that. Grr had enough of paypal already.

If you contact paypal and tell them the situation, they will cancel the account and send the account stealer a message that says that the account was closed for theft suspicions. But it would be good it you cancel the card to, just in case.

Belated wishes on your birthday Luke. I'm sorry this happened to you. Yes, all these sites are so untrustworthy. That's why I'm hesitant to join in today. I've burnt my fingers so many times. I too have been stupid. Regarding your parent's credit card. I registered with Free Lancer using a friend's credit card. After that, that site kept debiting the credit card automatically without my permission. My friend had to cancel his card and apply for a new one. So please please be very careful. PS. Do you sing and play the guitar?

First check if you can still change your password in your Paypal account. If it doesn't work, you better cancel the credit card of your parents to be sure that it will not be use by the hacker. I doubt if Paypal will immediately take actions for your problem Better yet cancel the credit card.

oh my god... I'm sorry this has to happen to you. I cannot give you any advice, though, but I'm grateful for the heads up. I use almost the same passwords in all my accounts so I can easily remember them, but now I think I'll have to think of a unique one for my paypal account.

I guess you should received an email where paypal inform you your password changed. Anyway contact paypal immediately. About the passwords: 1) never use the same password for differents accounts, you can easily use your usual password adding a prefix or a suffix related to the site. For example if your usual password is pippo for myLot you can use mlpippo or pippoml, for bux.to you could use btpippo or pippobt, and so on (for buxto i suggest scampippo or pipposcam ;) ) 2) NEVER use an usual password for MONEY RELATED site, like online banking, paypal, alertpay. i usually use a 20 digits password for that kind of sites, with capital and small letters in the middle. If you think a way to construct that kind of password you will see is not so easy. For example, on WM bank you can put month and day of birth of your mother then the "W" then YOUR birth year, then "m", then your month and day of birth, then a special sign like "@" or "[" then your mother year. That prevent a lot a bruteforce attack, and also social engeenering.

You can go into paypal with your email address and check that you have forgotten your password. They should have also asked you a Security Question. That's how they will know you are who you say you are. If that doesn't work go to the help section and send paypal an email telling them what happened. To be on the safe side I would tell my parents what's going on so they can contact their credit card company to be on the look out for suspicious charges.

woa, that was bad.tell your parents about it.you would not like to be being sued for fraud because some hackers had been able to access your parents credit card and might use them illegally or to do purchases.tell your parents.it is the first thing to do.try also to contact the paypal admin.tell them what happened.i hope you can fix your problem right away.

They will definately have to cancel the card and talk to the business from which they recieved the card, because they could get their money back. There are a lot of websites dedicated to stelling information like that, you have to be very careful. I have 600 dollars stolen from my bank account one time because someone pulled something like that over on me. Just tell your parents and they should understand and have them cancel te card.

The first thing that you need to do is report that to PayPal and asked then to stop all transactions on your account. I am sure that PayPal would be able to let you do that and investigate the matters. This could be a good lesson to all of us where we need to be careful when dealing with money on the internet. Thanks to your posting, others should know by now that it is not safe to use the same password for everything that we do on the internet. It is better to take the trouble to have to remember all the different passwords that we have than sorry. I hope that you would be able to act fast and if you do it accordingly, your parents may still keep the card but than, I would suggest to have that credit card replaced as well as we might never know how bad these people are. Take care. Cheers!
