over, another bank is taking over. We've had banks take over other banks before, but this is the first one I actually ever had close to switch over. Has your bank every closed before? What were the circumstances? I'm glad I know about it so that I can get everything done before it closes down. I've been calling people because a lot of people get stuff from bands and throw them away like I do. Did you ever have a bank switch over? Did you have some strange surprises? For example: one time I had a bank that I really couldn't cash a check at, they would judge my incoming money against my existing money and since I almost never have any money in reserve, I didn't have enough money to cash a check, so I got an account in another bank.

The bank that I use has not closed but has changed its name. It has been bought from HSBC and therefore a merge has followed. It did not affect me negatively. They continued business as usual and they did not close their branches here. So the switch over was done smoothly. © ronaldinu 2008

BAnks are the biggest rip offs there is I believe, I had an account with a bank called Sky Bank, we got some money from losing our home in Louisiana, all of a sudden it started going out to someone a 100-200 at a time. I went to the bank ask what was going on, they stated they did not know but I had to be authorizing it. When I told them no I did not and stop it now, they said they could not. They let over $2500. go before I had to take a police officer over and file a thrift report on them. They ran up a overdraft fee of $624. It took 3 months of investigation and a lot of insults from them to me, before the report came back that it was a bank error and they had to replace the money they let out.
I am now with a bank that I just found out took over this Sky Bank, so far I have not had any problems with them, but I am watching them very closely. IF I go there with with a check, I have to wait till after midnight to get credit for it. I was going to have my checks direct deposited but I need the money on the day they come, and would have to wait till after midnight to use the money, so I cash the checks at the store and then deposit the money. I wouldn't even mess with it, but I need the debit card to pay 2 of my bills that I would have to drive about 20 miles to pay at the store. There always seems to be some small fee if you don't let them know to run the debit as a credit.

My husband had a bank that was stealing from him, too. He would see charges on his account and no check number, so he went in time after time. They had to chase down the charges. My brother doesn't trust banks either, he pays by money order, but that gets costly. Take care

Our bank has been sold 3 times since 1979. During the transition the bank was never closed. I don't understand why they have to close but guess there's a good reason. We have banked at the same facility for all these years and the service is great and very personal. I love going in there since they all know me by my first name. Makes me feel so important...lol

Yes, this one has changed 3 times since 1995, I actually don't like this bank since the last change, but maybe these people will be better. Trying to run a bank when it is changing is hard and there are all these new regulations, so it probably is just to make sure they do everything exactly right. The last change was a cluster of mess-ups, so I think closing and reopening probably is better. Going to a different online site and redoing everything is going to be a pain. Like that they gave us two books of new checks and a $20 coupon for other checks. Take care.

They sent us checks for when they reopen under a new management, so I think we'll be fine. I just wanted people to know that some banks close before they switch over and that they might want to pay attention or they could go to a bank and not be able to get money out some day. I have enough money taken out to get me through this weekend. But if I hadn't learned about it in advance, I might now have money for gas, etc. Thanks

I've never had a bank switch over or change hands. Plus, we've banked at credit unions for the last 10 years and I have to say, it's sure been nice not to pay a single fee and to even earn money every month on our checking account! I don't think we'd ever go back to any bank for any reason. Hope your banking stuff goes smoothly. Take care.

Credit Unions are great, but the one I was in was 45 miles away and they kept mixing up things like taking money out of my share funds instead of my other ones. I needed a closer bank at the time and still like one that is closer. So now I only have savings at the Credit Union. Also the credit unions have a sign "If you don't have enough money, don't make the check, we report all overdrafts/bounced checks to the District Attorney." I have overdraft protection at my banks, I have the opportunity to have a police record because of checking at my Credit Union, so I just do savings there. Take care
