I was just wondering, what kinds of lethal snakes and spiders do you have...

in your area. Here in IN, United States we only have a couple venomous specious of each. They are: water moccasins, copperheads and brown recluse/black widow spiders. I am terribly afraid of spiders so running into one of these is my biggest fear. Snakes, not so much fear, EXCEPT when it comes to potentially running into one of these venomous ones. I saw on tv the other day, a man was bitten by a black momba snake and literally has only an hour or so before succombing to the mass amount of toxic venom and death occurs and I was just temporarily grateful to only have to worry about the ones in uncharted waters here. The spiders on the other hand, we have to worry about any wooded areas that are dark, which if you know anything about Indiana, it has plenty of wood!

i come from england and the only poisonous snake we have is the adder.
we don have poisonous spiders or frogs or anything like that really apart from in zoos. we are pretty lucky really lol.
it has bee known for poisonous spiders to come to this country from others on boats and in deliveries of bananas and things like that but no natives.
it soulds really dangerous where you come from.
how often to see these deadly creatures.
happy mylotting

Is the adder something you see often? Actually here where I live, we are considered lucky to only have 2 lethas kinds of each. Many other places have many different kinds and they are known to frequent puclic places. So, I consider myself lucky although you sound a bit more fortunate than myself!!!! I personally have only seen the water moccasin on 2 or 3 occasions, mostly on field trips and such, never near my home. The spiders though, I have been extremely fortunate and only seem to attract the harmless ones to my home (although I would much prefer to live without any of them)! Thanks for responding!!!

Whew, good for you!!! I would be grateful! The black momba did seem quite scary to hear some facts about it, I can assure you I would not like to be bitten by one!

I am from Northern part of India and I am staying on a big Stud Farm where we breed Throuoghbreds for the purpose of Racing! we are having 300 horses and in the capacity of a Vet I need to look after all these 300 horses. Since my farm is psread over 150 acres !
Our farm is like a desert with a lot of sandy area with lot of bushes spread all around the farm. We have four species of lethal snakes that are present in India. We have Cobras, Kraits,Pit Viper and Russel Vipers out of five sparing King Cobra.
Cobras are hooded snakes with spectacle mark on their hood. they are lethal once and they raise their hood when stimulated.
Kraits are striped snakes and they are notorious type of snakes generally enter the dwellings of Human beings and are generally found near Humans' habitat and are quite poisonous;
Vipers bith pit and Russel are wild type and normally hide themselves under some stones or bushes! they are also lethal with big fangs to inject the poison into their victim!
I often see this snakes on the farm and fortunately we haven't come accross any sort of casuelty caused by the snkes either withhorses or to Human beings.
Yes a couple of times Vipers have entered my Kitchen and they roam freely in our lawns but then they never caused any harm to us!
As far as the spiders are concern we don't have any letahl spiders in India so I am not really bothered about them though we have many species of these on our farm.
Other several non poisonous snakes are also there on the farm !
I am interested in the snakesand I have got a couple of books on the Indian Snakes and with the help of this book I try to study the snakes I get on the farm!
Thanks for initiating such an interesting topic of iscussion!

Wow, you have just captivated and petrified me in one simple paragraph! I have seen the Pit Viper and the King cobra in the zoo here in the states, and I'm not typically afraid of them. I would have to say though, if I ever came across a viper in my kitchen or in my lawn, I would run away as fast as I could and send a moving company for my belongings! As a vet though, you have the uncanny ability to put these dangerous reptiles into a very logical perspective which undoubtedly works to your advantage and keeps you and your precious horses safe! I on the other hand, have the prominant flight side of the fight or flight response and would use it to the fullest potential! Thank you so much for responding, it is definitly an interesting place you live in, one I will not be venturing to see any time soon!

Ireland doesn't have any native snakes, venomous or otherwise,or native venomous spiders either. We get a type of house spider here called a "Giganta",which is about 3x the size of the webcrawlers you usually get..it lurks quite impressively and would make you double take on seeing one!

I knew there was a valid reason that I wanted to move to Ireland other than the breathtaking scenes from Scarlett. That is awesome. I could so live with one type of harmless spider (nomatter the size) than a bunch of other kinds that are poisen! Is it gorgeous in Ireland? Do you love it there? I would love love love to visit there someday!

I would have said that too but I saw a man go to week his plant on tv the other day and he was instantly bitten by a rattlesnake and his life was in danger. I would much prefer the huge peach sized harmless spider even though spiders are a life long fear than have the potential for a deadly snake bite when performing a simple house task. I also saw a documentary on some african ants and they actually have the capability of killing and carrying away a human in a matter of minutes! Now that would be scary! They swarm you in millions! OOO, shudder.

Here in North Carolina, we have water moccasins (cottonmouths), copperheads and rattlesnakes. I've never run across a rattler, but I have cottonmouth's and copperheads! I'm totally terrified of the cottonmouths.
We have black widows and brown recluse spiders. I see black widows quite a lot, but thankfully, I've never actually seen a brown recluse. Of course, most of the people bitten by them don't see them first. I've known two people who were bitten by them; omg, it's horrible what they can do.
NC has Coral snakes, too, but thankfully, I've never come across one of those. Hopefully, I'll never see one!

We don't have many venomous insects or reptiles up here in New England, but we do have brown recluse spiders here and there. I've always loved both spiders and snakes, but I wonder if I'd feel differently if I were raised in an area where they are dangerous.

The brown recluse are venomous. They cause necrosis of the affected tissues and their surroundings and can cause limb amputation and such. I am terrified of them. At my house we had alot of grass spiders which highly resemble wolf spiders which are rather agressive and I was freaking out. UUUUUU, I really have a phobia, always have. I'm not as afraid of snakes, but I'm definitly grateful that I don't live in an area where the poisenous things are commonly seen. Thank you for responding!!! :-)
