Spongebob Square Pants? My daughter will be 2 in Decemeber and she is additcted to the show! As soon as we get home she says "Spongebob" She keeps saying it until it comes on. If you have ever seen it you know that it plays an 11 minute show has a few commercials then plays a second 11 minute show. After the first 11 minute show she yells "MOM SPONGEBOB" I tell her it will be back in a minute and she pouts!!! We are only letting her watch 2 episodes a day which is an HOUR of Spongebob I can't take much more of that and don't think she should be watching much more of that. My questions are: What is it about the show that kids like so much? Do you think its a good show for kids to watch? What is your overall opinion of the show - as a parent?

My daughter and I watch spongebob too. It's actually a funny cartoon. His innocence and curiousity is what makes it interesting. Some lines are what happens in everyday living. If you wonder why kids love spongebob you should watch yo gabba gabba, the upside down show, and some shows in disney channel. Oh boy!! They're really weird. Freak shows. LOL Anyways, you may let your child watch NOGGIN channel. It's actually like a day care school only in television.

We don't get the Noggin channel. It would be another 30 a month for it and I just can't do that! Besides she really won't watch any thing else. All she watches is Spongebob - if its not on she doesn't watch TV. I have tried to put a different show on during her TV time and she doesn't watch she sits and pouts! At 2 years old she defiantly has her own mind!

I know its a great channel!! My mom has it but she doesn't live near us. When my daughter is at her house she will kind of watch it only because my mom will NOT put spongebob on at ALL. The reason its so expensive is you have to upgrade to the digital some thing I only have the digital classic which isn't a lot on channels.

Oh wow. That's a lotof money for Noggin Channel. My sister lets her daughter watch just Noggin Channel. It's really an educational channel for kids. They have little bill, pinky dinkie doo, oswald, wubbzy, etc. Nick Jr is good too. Anyways, she'll soon change preference in cartoons. Kids do that.

I think that it is a really funny cartoon, my kids love it. I do not watch it much but when it is on it really makes me chuckle. I am not sure what makes it so popular it is just one of those programmes that everyone seems to love.

An hour of TV a day is fine for a kid. Sponge Bob is funny and has good lessons (be a good friend, don't cheat). I think he reminds them of themselves only in a more grown up version. How old is Spongebob, anyway? I don't have kids yet, but Spongebob along with Sesame Street, Little Bill and so on will be things it's only for them to watch when I do/

You have to be careful with Spongebob not all the episodes are okay. I have seen a few that I just won't let her watch.

I personally do not like Spongebob. I have a 2 year old and 11 month old in our house. However we are lucky to get a break with them watching TV! LOL! If we can get them to watch even 10 minutes of anything, the 11 month old seems to really like the Wiggles. Our 2 year old likes Doodlebops and I think these are way better for younger kids. Not to mention there are alot of other good shows for little ones. I do realize thou every family is different.

I totally agree there are better show out there but she WILL NOT watch ANY of them!!! The hour that I let her watch the show is my time to cook dinner and clean up at the end of the day. Otherwise she is under my feet. She doesn't play very indepentantly. When she isn't watching I am playing with her. So I really need that time. I am stuck between a rock and a hard place! I need to cook dinner with out tripping over her but spongebob is all she will watch! What do to? I guess monitor the ones she is watching!

Yes we are down to 2 shows a day. She watches the first one while I cook and the second one near bed time while I clean up. A few nights this week she has helped me clean up so she didn't watch the second show.

Have you thought about trying to limit it, and slowly reduce the show. I do understand the making of supper as Im in the same boat but with a 2 year old and a 11 month old here. I allow them to watch me do supper while giving them a healthy snack. I then hope I get things done before they get bored.. lol

Hello ebsharer! I am a watcher of spongebob squarepants and honestly, I love it. In your questions, I will answer it one by one. What is it about the show that kids like so much? I think the kids like it so much because of the scenes. It's very colorful and you know, kids love colorful things and it would really attract them. Aside from it's being attractiveness, spongebob is very funny. I even enjoyed it even if I am an adult, how much more the kids. Do you think its a good show for kids to watch? I don't see any reason why the kids can't watch it. They can learn many lessons there especially about friendship and loyalty. What is your overall opinion of the show - as a parent? I am not a parent yet, so I really can't answer it.

Well thank you for responding to all of my questions! I agree that the scenes are very colorful and mostly simple. Your right I'm sure thats why kids like it. Most of the shows are okay there are a few that I don't let her watch. I wish there were more 'lessons' if Spongebob taught letters and numbers my daughter would know them all! When you do become a parent I'm sure your child will find his or her favorite show after watching each episode 5 or 6 times youll hate it too! LOL

My two youngest sons are 9 and 11 and they both still love to watch this show. I know we have saw every episode at least 20 times by now being they have been watching it since they were 4 and 5 years old. I normally do not pay that much attention to the cartoons and kid shows they watch but I have watched Spongebob a few times. I dont think its harmful for them to watch but i dont see anything about it thats helping them either? Its really just silly show.

I have said since she started watching the show if it taught letters numbers stuff my daughter would be a genius!! She won't watch any thing else but I will put other things on like Mickey Mouse Club, Whinne the Poo, Doodlebops, and others. She will look at the TV here and there if they are on but nothing like when Spongebob is on. She will litteraly sit there and not take her eyes off the TV. You can wave your hand in front of her face - doesn't phase her. Try to tickle her - doesn't phase her. Call her name - doesn't phase her!!!

Truthfully, I think there are much better shows for kids to be watching. Only two years old, you say? Sponge Bob is aimed at the 6-12 year old age bracket anyhow. I am sure she is not really understanding much of what she is watching. An hour a day? Sorry Eb, what a waste of her time and yours! My daughter does not allow Sponge Bob in her house. She won't even allow me to buy clothes or anything with Sponge Bob on them. I can't really blame her, the few episodes I have watched have been rather rude and crude. Two years old huh? My 2 year old granddaughter LIVES for Dora the Explorer, Diego, Sesame Street, shows that actually attempt to teach her something abput life....I have a Spnge bov VCR tape hidden away. It is a Christmas episode, I have let the older grandsons watch it from time to time...even they have other shows they'd rather be watching as well!

She won't watch any thing else. You can put any thing on she walks away from it then gets into things that she knows she is not surposted to! That first half hour gives me time to cook dinner then the second half hour gives me a chance to clean up every thing from the day. If its not on she is either under my feet or getting into some thing. When she isn't watching I am normally playing with her. We color, play with toys and what not but I need some time to get things done! I have tried every other show I could find - nothing intrests her! Even in a store the child can spot a spongebob item from a mile away! We walked past the toothbrush isle and she was saying Spongebob I said where and she was pointing. I walked down the isle and there was one toothbrush half way down the isle and i had to look for it. I think she is addicted to it!

My son likes watching it because it's funny - it makes him laugh a lot. He doesn't watch it often though. I do sometimes sit down with him and watch it too.

I let her watch it while I am doing things - the first half hour she is watching I am cooking dinner and the second half hour she watches - its almost bed time so I clean up. Other then that she doesn't watch - she really WILL NOT watch any thing else!

My daugther use to watch spongebob when she was younger and now my daycare kids love it. YOu must pay much more attention than I do because after all these years of watching it, I never realized it was 11 minute episodes. I see no harm in the kids watching it. It is a cute show. I like to sit and watch it every once in a while with them.

I honestly can't stand it! I have watched a few and hear almost all of them - I have turned it off a few times becuase I didn't like the content. Like for example - the "salior mouth" episode! Its HORRIABLE for a child of ANY age!

I think the most offensive part of the show is that darn voice and laugh. It used to just absolutely grate on me. I sat down and watched some of the shows. I was surprised to find I could sit through one and be mildly entertained too. I don't think it's a bad show. I will be interested in the opinions of why this is such a popular show though. Sponge Bob is a like-able guy I guess.

I'd like to know why kids get so addited to a show like that! I can't stand it, but that's proabably because I have seen every eposiode 9 times or more! Most of the shows are okay but there are a few we just don't watch.

My kids like Spongebob. My 8 year old likes it better than my almost 2 year old though. She is obsessed with DORA. She acts the same way about DORA that your daughter does with Spongebob.

I thinks it's a cut show. You are so right to limit her. She needs to use her imagination and also get some exercise. She can't get either of those sitting in front of the TV watching Sponge Bob!

I agree! If I would let her - she really would sit there all day long and watch it. So she 4 - 11 minute episodes a day. 2 when we get home so I can cook dinner and 2 around bed time for chill out time.
