Do you like eating sweet potatoes baked in the oven?

My mom always made sweet potatoes for Thanksgiving. She'd make them in the oven cut up into bite sized chunks and put butter, brown sugar and marshmallows on them and bake them. I never liked them and honestly I don't think anyone in my family did. But she made them every year. My sister makes them now the same way for her husband and he loves them. No one else eats them though.

I was reading through all the responses before I respond myself and came to yours and screeched to a halt!
Longhorn restaurant is my all-time, absolute FAVORITE restaurant!!! When my husband and I got married, we did it at the courthouse, then went directly to Longhorn to eat. We ate there on each anniversary, as well. That was our 'special' place. Oh, right... our very first date was at the Longhorn restaurant!
Unfortunately, we moved away last year and there is no Longhorn nearby. 
We'd have to travel about 110 miles to the nearest one. One of these days, though, I'm going to go for it! We'll have to spend the night at a motel or hotel, though, because after eating there I just want to lie down and have a nap! LOL I miss that restaurant SO MUCH!!!
Their food is EXCELLENT! I never had anything I didn't absolutely LOVE from the Longhorn! I've had their baked sweet potato and I must say it's the best I've ever eaten!
Sorry for getting long-winded here, but you reminded me of just how much I miss that restaurant!!!

Mental, I hope you have the opportunity to go there soon since you love it so much. I go there once a week as my employee's love the place and I treat them to lunch there. And you are right its something about their sweet potatoes that just seems better than any others. Most everyone in my group that I am with will have it as a side item

Yes cream, I really do love a great baked sweet potato. there is nothing else in the world like them. If I am really hungry for one I will even make it in the microwave.

yes it is lovely to eat a sweet potatoes when it is cold weather. I sometimes do cook sweet potatoes with sugar coated its the favorite snack food of my daughter but my mother love to eat a bake sweet potatoes for she has diabetes and also my husband.

I do like sweet potatoes and regular potatoes from the oven. Actually when I was a young child I didn't like sweet potatoes at all. Later in years I met my second husband who can really whip up a great dish for Thanksgiving.
It is some kind of marshmallow and brown sugar combination. I think the potatoes need to be either boiled or baked. They are really delicious and now I appreciate sweet potatoes more!

Basically I like to eat potatoes, when it is fried or boiled...... i haven't tried when the potatoes are baked...... if, the fried potatoes are much chilly, then I love them most........

Yes, my father-in-law used to make them fried, and they were so delicious. I remember him once boiling the sweet potatoes in the pot and they were sliced. They tasted so sweet and good. He loved making these with baked chicken in the oven..

Hi ya cream! ;) I love sweet potatoes. I really love them when they are baked.
My families favorite way for sweet potatoes is I cut them in half, then I put brown sugar, curry powder, and a bit of margarine on the insides. Then I wrap it in tin foil and bake till they are soft and sweet. My three children just love them. They are so great on cool nights as with the curry it has that spice but the sweetness of the sugar, which I love.
You got me craving for some tonight now LOL

My mother used to make them in the oven or, later in her life, the microwave.. she would load them down with butter and brown sugar.. My husband, son and mother ate them the same way, but I like them mashed and simmered in a pan with brown sugar covering them.. The brown sugar melts and make the potatoes sweet all the way through, then I like to top them with marshmallow and pop the pan in the oven long enough to brown the marshmallows.. Pizza and sweet potatoes for breakfast so far this morning, cream97 are you trying to make me fat?? I know that you are making me hungry.. 2 people like this

Actually, I bake mine in the microwave oven now. It's quicker and tastes just as good. Just a touch of butter and the sweet potato is yummy.

I adore them! Growing up, I only ate them at Thanksgiving when my mother made candied sweet potatoes. It was the sweetness of them that I loved!
Getting older, I'd make them like my mother did and also eat sweet potato pie occasionally, usually for holiday meals.
After eating my first baked sweet potato at the Longhorn restaurant (like the one mentioned above) I fell in love with them! Now, I'll have baked sweet potatoes as often as I have any other kind of baked potato. My husband adores them! Brown sugar and lots of butter... yummmmmmmmmm!!!!
I'll be back soon... you've made me want some tonight so I've gotta run to the store real quick! LOL Thanks! Now, I just have to plan the rest of the meal around the baked sweet potato!

I do not like sweet potatoes, yams. When I was growing up my mother used to bake sweet potatoes, I ate them because I had to. She also made candied yams, and sweet potato pies, which I did not like either. I can say for certain, that a sweet potato or a yam is one item I have never purchased in my life

Yes I do. I cut them in slices and regualar potatoes and put them in a oven safe baking dish layered with one sweet potatoe and then a reg. tater, and keep doing this and Put butter on top with salt and pepper cover and bake them until done. Yummy. I will also bake them! I also love sweet potato pie.

Oh no dear friend!
That I so hate. I don't like the mushy feeling when I start biting on them. I like to eat things that makes sounds when I chew. But I like potatoes when they are fried! It's the best for me.

Yes, but, I like yams much better because they have a nuttier flavor. Not so sweet. Sweet potatoes taste tooo candy sweet to me.
