Do you swim at public pools?

Here where I am in the US, I think they're quite clean and so I do go. The showers work fine after and the lifeguards are good. I enjoy going every summer with my family or friends, as we don't have a pool of our own. It's pretty big, and there are seats you can just tan on around it. So, do you go swimming at public pools where you are? What's it like?

I live in a condominium where we have our own swimming pool. However I have never swam in it because somehow I felt shy doing it. Many of the condominium's residents know me already, that's why I am shy to swim in the swimming pool. Usually there are teenagers and boys who like swimming in the pool and I can hardly see women my age doing their swim there.
Maybe if I have a couple of friends who likes the idea of swimming in our pool together, I would do it. Actually I really wanted to have a swim there, because it is ours and we have paid for its maintenance and all. But oh, I'll have to wait for one moment until somebody asks me to join her.
