Do you let your dog sleep in your bed?

Do you let your dog sleep in your bed? Do you let your dog on the furniture? My boyfriend and I recently adopted a dog. We let her sleep in our bed with us and sit on the couch with us when we watch tv. We love having her keep us company. Before we adopted her, she was living in a foster home. I don't think her foster parents let her in the bed or on the furniture. The day we got her we tried to get her to jump in the bed with us, and she looked really confused. But now when we invite her on the bed, she jumps right up! My parents don't let their dog in the bed or on the furniture at all. What about you?

In my house the dogs stay outside. The only reason theyre outside is because they tend to drop a lot of hair. They drop noticeable white hair. If i were to let my dogs in they would drop hair all over my bed and furniture. Thats the only reason i dont let my dogs in.

Hi friends, This is an ongoing battle between my hubby and I. I love the dog up on the couch cuddled up beside me. However he is a Rotweiller/Bull Mastiff mix, so he is no little lap dog. I am so appalled at people who get dogs and keep them outdoors. Why on earth would you get an animal to keep it outside. What was the point of getting him/her? And for people with breathing difficulties. It is one thing if you didn't know before you got the dog, but it is clearly another if you knew you had this problem and got the animal anyway for it to stay outdoors. My dog and cat and rabbit are as much a part of my family as my children are. I could not put my head on my pillow at night knowing my dog or cat was outside freezing. Its just plain cruel. As far as fur all over the place, unless you got a dog that was bald, you knew this would be a problem. Cheryl

I agree with Cher completely. A pet is a pet. And if you want to have a pet, they have to be with you inside your home. Fur dropping or not. My dogs fur drops whenever it has to, and we just keep cleaning. So what? Doesn't your hair drop? Are you going to stay outside the house? Dogs fur does not drop all the while, just during particular seasons.

I agree with Cher as well. My dogs are Collies- lots of hair. it can be swept or vacuumed. Why get a dog to force it to live outside? They did nothing wrong except be a dog-that is what you knew you were getting isn't it?

I don't let my dogs enter the house. They just stay outside because I have asthma and we avoid letting them in. We feed, train and groom them, and play with them outside our house.

They have a nice place outside the house, only for them. We treat them the way they should be treated and we feel that they are happy. They love us and we love them.

I have asthma and allergies too- I would never leave my dogs out. I would never have gotten a dog if it wasn't going to be a member of my family. Would you force any other family member to live outside? There are plenty of Asthma medications that would give you better control of your breathing.

My pets can pretty well sleep where they want. Lucy, my dog used to always sleep on my bed but now she stays there less than a minute unless I am stroking or patting her. She usually sleeps on one of the single lounge chairs or the 3 seater lounge. She even uses the cushions for her head....so funny.

I actually would, but my dog would not have it, he jumps off the bed and prefers to sleep on the floor. Either that or he goes right to the middle of the bed so there is no way I can lay down next to him. He's not allowed on the couch, though when he sees a squirrel he jumps on it, trying to see out the window.

yes, we do let our dogs sleep on our bed. some years ago, our dog liked snuggling next to me. i usually sleep on my side, and she would lay down beside me and use my arm as her pillow. =) she doesn't do that anymore though, because she's old now. she doesn't seem to want to snuggle as much and can't jump up on the bed anymore. =(

I let my dog (when he is bath and smell good) on my bed,I also let my four cats sleep with me. I like having them with me, I believe it make them feel that we love them. I also have 2 cts that stay outside, but I make sure that they fed and at night i have blankets in a box so that won't e cold.

Yes my dog sleeps on our bed when we are not in it. We put a cover sheet over it so he does not make the bed smelly. He is too big for any of the chairs. I never let him in the bed with us as there is no room and he mucks the sheets up. At night he gets to sleep on his own bed and the bedroom door is shut. I have no problem with dogs on furniture at all.

We don't have a dog right now, only cats. We hope to have a puppy next year. But when we "babysit" my parents dog he gets to sleep in the bed and get on the couch and chairs just like our cats can. Many people are really bothered by this, but I just never have been. I am a 'comfort' person. I don't have furniture that doesn't get used, etc. My animals are my family, and we all play and sleep together (well, my son in his room with animals and me in mine, or all of us on couch or chairs, etc). Good for you and your adopted dog!! How lucky she is. All three of our cats are rescued and hopefully our puppy(s) will be too!!!

No dogs in bed, cats are enough, it's crowded as it is. Enjoy your new dog and remember you now have perfect love in your home.

If it were up to me, I would allow Lucky to lay with me wherever I am at, although I live with my parents and the dogs are not allowed on the couch, but they do sleep with us in our beds.

Yep, I sleep with my dog Otis. My husband does't like it but he is clean and he doesn't shed and he doesn't smell. So what is the big deal?

In my parents' home, the dog always sleep at the foot of the bed with my parents. He's totally spoiled.Especially in winter.Cause' he's bed is in the living room and there's so cold in the deep night when we all go to the bedroom. Now,he thinks it's quite natural that our parents' bed is his bed.If I wake him up at the winter morning and try to force him get off the bed,he'll bark at me,then back to sleep:( and if we eat at the dinning room,he will eat his dinner beside us at a big chair,or he won't eat anything. When we're watching tv,he will sit beside us closely and fall asleep. I have a dog in my house now.And I also don't care if she wanna sleep on my bed.But she can't sit on the couch...lol...cuz I have no couch in my house:)

I love dogs but I do not like to have them in my bed. We have three dogs in the house and they all sleep in their own beds. Yes, they can "watchTV" with us and sit in the coach but the bedroom is off limits to them. I do not think that it is healthy to let dogs sleep in your bed. Animal hair can cause respiratory problems as you grow older.

When I have my pet before my daughter has came for us I did not let my dog or cat sleep in my furniture and for that way I always make it sure that I bought a basket bag for them when they are still small and then bought a foam when they will became big enough to sleep in the stock room.....

My dog lives outside which saddens me because I would love for her to be inside with us, but she is very energetic and can cause damage and she sheds a lot of hair. My cat sleeps on my bed, though.

Ilove my dog, but he sleep in his own bed, he can sit in the lounge in his spot where a cushion is placed for this purpose, and he is happy with this.

As an owner of both dogs and cats, it is easy to see the dfference between them, especially at bedtime. Dogs are naturally pack animals, and they sleep in groups with their 'pack' or family. Cats are more aloof, and may or may not sleep with their 'family', but they like the choice. Our dogs (both chihuahuas) sleep with us, and sit on the couch with us. We've gotten ultra-suede furniture that is easy to clean, so pet hair is really not a problem. I find their behavior, and trainability to be better when you live with them in a way that works with their nature. Look at us (people) - do you work better with people who accept you, or with people who you feel don't accept you for one reason or another? I have a friend who has 7 dogs, all larger breeds. It's not possible to have them all in bed with her and her husband, but they all sleep near the bed. There's also one benefit for both the owners and the pets. If we see any signs of fleas...we sure take care of them quickly if they're sleeping with us, right?

We have a 9 pound poodle. When a couple of friends were pet sitting for her in their home early on as a puppy, they got her into this habit. You would THINK a little dog like this would be fine and it really is. The thing is, as small as she is, she thinks she OWNS the bed. She's has always been able to jump up on the furniture. Having said this, when she went to obedience training the instructor said that this is not a good idea to have a dog to sleep on the bed with you. It breaks down the alpha concept of running in a pack. What's become funny is that if I do NOT make the bed, there she sleeps when we are out for the day. If I make the bed, she's fine in her own bed.
