Windows Vista is pretty much incompatible with a lot of devices. So it would be very much difficult for you to transition from XP to Vista. Vista just have nice graphics and design. Performance might be sacrificed as well. If you want to have Vista you must have System Requirements that is more than what is recommended for it to run proficiently. Bottom line, I prefer Windows XP.

Yes Windows XP is better compare to Vista only when you Got below 1GB or Ram. but as my experience using a Windows Vista 32bit with SP1. after the release of Windows Vista SP1 all the common problem regarding performance stability with regards to Speed responsiveness has been solve and with just only 1 GB or Ram and Dedicated Videocard can be a stable performance. ReadyBoost also help my system to speed up noticeably when using Photoshop and browsing the hard drive. it helps add RAM Memory by just using a thumbdrive and Nowadays thumbdrive prices drop really fast.

Windows Vista consume more than 15 gigabyte of your hard disk while Windows XP Service Pack 2 Professional consume only less than 5 gigabyte. Graphical user interface of the windows vista is quite impressing and very outstanding. Is more better if you have a very nice video card and match it with an LCD monitor. If you want to use Vista go for Vista Ultimate version because it has more complete features of the vista operating system that's why it was called vista ultimate. But remember as long your computer match the minimum system requirement, then there will be no problem. But for now, I prefer Windows XP because some of the old program does not run vista. It more easy for me to trouble shoot and repair because I am used to this windows operating system.

Vista is bloatware and it sucks. Why do you think that Microsoft will be releasing a new OS in the not to distant future? Stick with XP. You might also want to try out a Linux OS. It might be hard to completely go without a Windows OS, I use an Ubuntu(Linux) distro as well as Windows XP. That set-up suits my needs.

Vista is a good system if you want to upgrade just for the sake of it's visual themes but it doesn't have some of the features in XP (such as password protect zipped files for one). Another thing - i don't know if it has changed recently - MS Office is a trial version so you have to buy it after the trail version ends which absolutely sucks, but it does include Microsoft Works (not word... works). I got around this issue by getting Open Office downloaded it is like MS office but free =) Beware it IS a big file. You need to get a good anti-virus no matter what AVG is a good free alternative to the paid ones. Firewall also a must (Keiro - did i spell that right?) and i had major issues playing some of my videos (that i recorded with a digital camera) i had to install a codec pack. If you are willing to put up with these things, and are computer savvy enough or have computer savvy friends that will help you bypass these issues then go for it... As another user said most software, hardware is not compatible with Windows Vista. Now it is a different story usually some softwares offer free online updates/upgrades so they work with vista you might require your product registration key/code. So do a little web browsing to see if that is true in your case... Hope that was of help ;)

Microsoft Windows Vista is likely different compare to WindowsXP in-terms of Visual Style, Speed, how the Search functions works and some stability with Vista Service Pack 1 or SP1. Before the Launch of SP1 of Windows Vista. the common problem experience by lots of early user of Vista is a very slow performance. so far thats my only experience i had before installing VistaSP1. But after the release of Windows Vista SP1 anyone install the Service pack will already notice is the big improvement regarding the response of the operation system and with the help of more than a Gig of Memory Ram feels like Faster than WindowsXP in many ways. And also with regards to Search, it is the most improvement of Vista having not to search in your hard drive to look for all the files for as long you know the filename. you'll just have to type it in Windows START page and it will automatically list all file that has similarity to what your looking for. also no more browsing for Programs all it take is just by typing the Programs name and it automatically display the program in the START screen. a must to those people who's not much of a patient looking for stuff in a hard drive. with the ReadyBoost feature of Vista. all Thumbdrive that has Pass the requirements speed can be use as a RAM Memory and help the System to response to a more faster Windows Experience Ever imagine. For as long have enough memory installed Windows Vista will perform its peak performance as a power house computer system

Vista got a lot of functions and gimmicks which exists in linux world since years. Device problems were already mentioned, also a lot of your favorite software won't work under vista. And it sucks resources, it's tremendous! Most computer shops sell their products with a "downgrad option" to get rid of vista and set up XP. Guess why? Stick to XP, vista is not the best thing coming out of richmond!

Hi, below are several of the things I know about Windows Vista. As a note I started using a computer since 1983 and am now a freelance computer technician. 1) It is NOT the same as Windows XP. Its coding was started from scratch while XP was based on the NT platform. 2) It requires a high end PC or laptop eg it requires a minimum of 1Gb RAM. To fully realize or make full use of its functionality a recommended minimum of 2Gb RAM is required. 3) Vista's functionality can be downgraded to be similar to XP but I think this defeats the purpose of getting Vista in the first place. 4) There are programmes which would not work with Vista. 5) Ensure its version is compatible with your system - they have 32bit and 64 bit Vista versions... 6) It comes with several trial software such as Office 2007, a move which I dislike. 7) On the security side it is stronger but we can get almost the same thing from third party software makers for XP. I am still sticking to XP and 'playing' with Vista. rosdimy

If you were on windows XP lately and you decided to switch to Vista....then you might also consider to buy new devices. Things like printers, scanners or even your webcam may not be supported when your switch to Vista I think the look and its themes are amazing and i believe thats the reason why most people would like the use of Vista, but when it comes to devices it supports...it will be stressful for you to keep up with it, YOU WILL HAVE TO BUY NEW DEVICES FOR YOU TO EFFECTIVELY ENJOY THE USE OF VISTA.
