The weather forecast was so funny

The other night I watched the news in my favorite television channel. I was aftering for the weather forecast because my officemates told me that there is a strong typhoon. It was forecasted that there is really a strong typhoon. Our place is on signal no. 2. That is quite alarming. Classes in elelmentary and high school are suspended.
What is funny about their forecast is that the sun is shining too bringht. We cannot feel that there is a typhoon. The sky is very clear. I really do not know if the weather forecaster committed mistake or it was just a false alarm. Anyway, if they did not commit mistake, that's good. At least the typhoon did nnot hit our place.
Have you experienced that weather forecasters committed mistakes?

there's an infamous one of the BBC weatherman who commented on the live broadcast re somebody who'd phoned up the met office - "to the woman who phoned in, don't worry there's not going to be a hurricaine" - just before the massive storm of 1987, that killed people and destroyed buildings from falling trees etc.

Its really funny but such errors r too rare and take place once in a blue moon
