It is never safe here in South Africa, if you check the crime stats our country come second(2nd) on the the list of top five(5) countries at crime. I mean even during the day you get this robbers flying all over trying to grab almost anything you have. There are some streets in the big cities where you cannot walk with your braceletson, necklaces on or even your watches, they would take everything you have on you. Not to say i talk bad about my country...but the truth must come out. It so scary, at nights is even worse because there are whole lot of mad crazy heartless people, scary And now we will be hosting the 2010 fifa soccer world cup, i just wonder what will happen during that short moment of the big event. I think crime is out of hand over here and there is no doubt about that, and i don't think the government is doing enough about it There are lot of innocent people being robbed and killed on a daily basis and the only time you here about the government talking about the status of crime in the country is when someone from the government has beein killed or has been robbed. But too bad for now because most of people who get robbed are just innocent people like me. And what we call our leaders are enjoying their "personal security". I wish FIFA could ban the big even from coming here

wow that really is scary the government is going to have to step up helping people be more safe over there when you can,t walk the street maybe the community is going to have to pull together and come up with ways to protect their family since govnerment isn,t doing anything.no one should have to live in fear like this.the government need to create more jobs if he do this it will cut down on the crime and violent in your country. thank you for sharing

Are you talking about our selfish government? all they care about is how much goes to their bank accounts each month, for a normal citizen like me they do not care what he do or what he eats With the crime, the problem is that...the very same governmence allow too many foreigners freedom to do(like) almost everything, and the next thing the foreigners commit some serioys crimes and go back to their countries. You must have tough limitations on certain foreigners when they are in the country, but so far is like they allow everyone to enjoy doing everything as if they are the normal citizens, i mean how will you trace a foreigner who has forged his ID documents since from his country? coming to the country commit serious crimes and stay in far rural areas? you'll never get them And what would the outside world say? this country has high crime rate. Is my country but i hate it here, BIG TIME

I live in London, Ontario, Canada, and for the most part, I feel that the streets here are very safe to walk at night. I personally don't, but that's because my lifestyle doesn't allow for it (I'm at home with my children every night). However, when I don't have the kids, and have the opportunity to go out, I do. I don't feel concerned about my safety the way some people would in other cities. Granted, growing up in Toronto has given me a few street sense skills that not everyone possesses. ;)

that wonderful but even the safes in places you feel safe these days are being threaten from gang violence be are in fear of their lives being attacted just because i feel no one is safe these day when you are feeling this way is all the more you need to be cautious.they are jacking people cars left and right some people get away other get badly hurt if not killed so if you are ever in this situation just let then have it.most the time gangs want what you have worked hard to get and they set back and watch when you live your home and come back so they can attack or rob you so be very careful no matter how safe you feel these days.

Oh, I know I could still be a victim of violence, and to help avoid that, I make good choices. Staying away from dark alleys for example.. .that's a given. Staying in well lit areas, and walking with my keys poking out between my knuckles... stuff like that. Common sense really.

I guess they are have had no problem going any where I wanted no matter day or night here. Specialy down town where thereare lots of people. we have the gangs and the hoods. we have drive by shootings but none in my neighborhood. even tho we have a little gang of kids here all I have seen them do is paint on the walls. But if ya walk scared they can tell it . If you walk unscared they leave your alone

They really have to realize that thier mom and dad or whom ever is living in the home is the min family! Some think that if they arent in a gang they arent in the IN croud. Which is wrong for they can get along with out the mean kids on the block. I am doing great how are you? hugs

this is how it start with small children who grow up together and they start think that the kids in the street is their only family which we know this is not true.gangs destroy the neighborhood.believe when you leave your house someone is watching when you leave and when you return so if they wanted to attack and rob you they can do it because they,re watching all the time you don,t see them but they,re there.thank you lakots how are you?thank you for sharing

It pretty much is safe for me here. I walk home from school every day. There are stories sometimes, but I've been fine and I walk in broad daylight most of the time. I don't think I could get much safer. I've been fine all this time.

I do not think that crime is prevalent in the whole state, there are cities I am sure in every state that have high crime rates. I live in New Jersey, and most people would say that Newark is a high crime city which it is, but Newark in itself would not mean that New Jersey is a high crime state. The city I live in is very small, and I would not have a problem of fear if I were to walk the streets at night. I generally do not go out at night walking the streets because there is nowhere to go, but if I were to just go for a walk at night I would not be afraid.

I live in a fairly new community. The house I live in is about half a decade old. The last time I recall some gang activity here would be about four years ago, at school, where you can clearly see the division by race. It only happened once, and that was about it. So it really is nothing if I walk outside, day or night. I'm in "Canada's High-Tech Capital" - Markham, Ontario, a fairly large place. The place isn't too fond of buildings that go above the treeline, and there's like one or two of those. But a little bit south, to the adjacent area, the Scarborough part of Toronto is known for an increase in crime and homicides for the past few years.

In our place, its safe to walk at night nowadays. The subdivions personnels set out a curfew for all students at 10pm.So no one is staying along the streets by that time except the tanod's/guards that were assign by the subdivision heads. This is very good since im working and most of the time i always come home late.At least I know there are patrols that are walking around at night,i wont be paranoid going home to my place anymore.

It is very safe here for walking the street. Unwanted incidences are very less. Safety on the street depends on how good control the administration have in that area.

that great to hear i like to hear people express there neighborhood is safe that let me know all area in the state is not bad and we can still live a fear free life on our streets.there are some high crime areas where you have to make sure your window are up when you ride down the street.they have drive by shooting and gangs are attacking the elderly couples trying to take their checks on the first and third.but the elderly are starting to fight back by taking defense classes and many other classes. like taking karate classes they are not going to take it anymore.thank you for sharing

My parents moved me and my siblings from south central los angeles to a quiet little neighborhood in downey, ca and I have to tell you that I feel more comfortable walking around in downey than in a neighborhood in los angeles. I have since moved to Norwalk, Ca and i feel more comfortable walking in my new neighborhood than walking in a los angeles neighborhood. I used work in Inglewood, Ca and people that i worked with will tell me of their friends being jacked, beaten, and all that bad stuff and I just worry. So to answer your question, it is safe to walk around my street at night. People here mind their own business and it usually quiet because are at home after a long day of work. The only noise that you may hear in the early evening are kids playing.

violence and crime is real and it do extist as you are well aware but there are people living in fear can,t walk the street day are night out of fear of being attacked. gangs are growing and it,s spreading like a disease on man kind we as a community in whatever state we are in should take steps to protect our famulies and our lives.you have the right to defend your famliy and yourself from harm.people are fighting back to protect what they have worked hard for just for someone to come in and try to take it away fron them see gangs want what you have they don,t want to work and earn whats theirs they like the fact of taking someone else life saving are their life if need be. so if you live in a safe place thats good but keep your guard up at all times thank you for sharing.

Absolutely. This is one of the reasons we moved to this are. We live in a small town out in the country. We have been here for about 5 years now and haven't had any problems at all. We know all our neighbors and we are all very close knit. We don't lock our cars, we have no need to lock our house. Everyone watches out for everyone here. It's very comforting.

Well, safety in my area depends on the time of day! There have been shootings and stabbings in the vicinity of where I live even though it is a good place. Gang violence is the root cause. It's safe to walk during the day when there is light outside but it gets worse if you walk later at night around 11:00. Quite honestly, it depends on the what's meant to happen. If it's meant to happen, something bad could happen in the day or night!
