Hi everyone, This weekend was very productive, as alot of you know I have 5 children ranging from the age of 8 to the age of 25. My two younger ones are home with me the older ones are on thier own. My 8 year old son was watching the local news and a story came on about the food pantries not having enough food to help people in need. I watched his face get red and a tear role down his cheek. sitting quietly for about 10 minutes. By this time I was in the kitchen cooking and he came out all excited and said mom I want to help the food pantries. I just looked at him and said how would you like to help? He said I want to get everyone in our city to give us food and we can bring it to shelters. I said okay Jayson how would you like to do this? His reply was I am not really sure and I think we have to have a family meeting and figure this out because we need lots of people to help. He then got on the phone and told his brothers and sister they had to be a part of this meeting and they had to be at the house at 5pm. He said it was very important but did not tell them what it was about. My little man putting together his army to conquer hunger. He took it one step further and called his grandparents and his aunties to come as well. Suprise, Suprise they all showed up and on time. Jayson and I made a nice dinner for everyone. After dinner he said okay everyone has to help me, we need to get alot of food and bring it to the food pantries. He caught everyone by suprise, my oldest son said okay buddy I will get alot of boxes from work to put the food in. My youngest then said there is one problem I don't know how to get alot of food! We all looked at one another and then he said it. Hey Mom call the supermarket and tell them people are really hungry and we all have to help them. Today I called a major supermarket head office and told the ceo what my son was thinking about doing and he was only 8 years old. We will be allowed to put a table out in front of the stores (4) of them and collect food for the pantries for 2 whole weekends. The ceo also told us that the main office will donate 100 gift cards for 25.00 each to help him. I then called the local paper and they requested a picture of him. She wants to run an article on him and put it in the paper so people know about the event that my son wants to do. My whole family will be involved, I am very proud of my little one. I am very proud of all my children willing to give up 2 weekends to help! I can not wait for my son to get home to tell him all this wonderful news!

What goes through a childs mind sometuimes. It shows that your son has a very good home and a good set of manners and respect for others. That kid will go places one day. You've done a good job as a mother. Congratulations. All the best with this food bank your son is putting together.

You definitely are a front runner of mothers to be proud of their child! I would be too. I think that this is a great idea and such a nice thing to do to help those in need. This is definitely the time of year for it. There are so many people in need of help and I myself never forget those who are hungry or homeless. You know, it could happen to any of us and for your son to have so much insight into all this at such a young age is truly inspirational. Good luck with the coming holiday season!
