I've heard some professional photographers talk about the Holga and how it produces artistic pictures. Does anybody here know what type of camera is a Holga? And why is is becoming more and more popular with both amateur and professional photographers?

A Holga is a cheap camera with a plastic lens. The plastic lens doesn't make for high quality photos, but it produces an interesting-looking artistic effect. Holga's make for a lot of "happy accident" photos- where you just snap away and sometimes you will get something that looks really awesome that you didn't intend to do.
An alternative to the Holga for SLR cameras is a Lensbaby. You can read more about Lensbabies and see some example images here: http://www.quazen.com/Arts/Photography/Special-Effect-Photography-with-a-Lensbaby.296951 It's not quite the same as a Holga, but Lensbabies get compared to Holgas A LOT. And with Lensbabies' new Optic Swap System, you can put a plastic lens in your Lensbaby to closer achieve the effect of a Holga.
I personally prefer Lensbabies to Holgas because you can use them with digital cameras. Holgas can be real hit or miss, and you end up developing a lot of photos that you really don't like. Also, darkroom chemicals are really bad for the environment. So if you want similar artistic photos with the convenience of a digital camera, get a Lensbaby!

I've checked out Lensbaby, and you're right. I think it's better than Holga because at least you get to control the outcome of your photos. Mmmm... I'm learning a lot here. Thanks for your tips, guys. But I'm still getting myself a Holga . . . and a Lensbaby as well.

Lots of photographers take an actual Holga lens, and modify it so that it will fit on a DSLR camera. That way you get the same Holga look... but digital! I thought about doing this, but I figured I'd just get a plastic lens for my Lensbaby since it produces pretty much the exact same result!

You have a point there, trickiwoo. I guess it's more practical to just get a Lensbaby than buy both. Mmmmm... that got me thinking.
Anyway, do you have any idea how much this Lensbaby costs? I would very much appreciate your response.
