Corned Beef and Cabbage

While growing up this was a traditional St. Patrick's day meal in my house, and I've continued that tradition with my own family. For the past few years we've only ever had corned beef and cabbage on St. Patrick's day. Well, we've decided to have it on an odd night as well. We saw it at the grocery store and just thought it would be good to have, so I'm making it for dinner tonight. How often do you have this meal? Do you eat it on St. Patrick's day every year? If not, what do you eat instead?

This is my husbands favorite meal. Corner beef here is really really expensive. In fact it's up to like 6.99 a pound now. I refuse to buy it unless it's on sale. When that happens it's a huge treat for him!

That is completely ridiculous! Here it is around $2 a lb, so it costs a bit over $10 usually.

I'm not sure if that sounded bad or not, lol. I just reread it and thought "geez it looks like i'm calling her a liar" Well i didn't mean that. I mean the pricing is ridiculous. I wouldn't buy it at that price either.

I love corned beef and cabbage. The first time I ever ate it was at friend's house. She was polish. Her husband and my husband were in the Air Force together and overseas. She had me over one night and cooked this dish. It's very good. I don't cook it too much around here, but may cook it soon. I have the cabbage, but don't have any corned beef right now. Never thought about it being a St Patrick's day dish.

My mom was Irish, and this is a typical Irish dish... at least according to her, which is why we had it on St. Patrick's day.

Yes, I've read it is from the Irish. But, apparently, it is such a good dish that lots of people enjoy it. Makes me hungry just thinking of the dish!

I normally make it around St. Patrick's Day, but not necessarily on St. Patrick's Day. I have had it other times too. I probably only have Corned Beef and Cabbage 2 or 3 times a year, but I eat corned beef in Reuben sandwiches other times of the year.

I have never celebrated this day so I just eat ordinary food on that day. I did used to get drunk though years ago on that day but no more alas! I could not eat corned beef now anyway as it makes me ill it sits in my tummy and it is horrible!
