Why is Veal inhumane?

I am very curious as to why people consider veal to be inhumane. I am more interested in hearing the points from people apposed to veal, than people who approve of eating it. What's the big deal? Just consider me uninformed and please enlighten me.

some veal is inhumane. some not. if you want to eat veal, then you should look for what is known as pink or rose veal, rather than white veal. or veal produced in the UK, where the crating system is, thankfully, illegal. in fact, it is a very good thing to eat rose veal. here in the UK, there is little market for veal, so unfortunately, many farmers either shoot the calves at birth, or worse still, sell the newborn calves to countries where crated veal is popular and legal. if we were to buy enough rose veal to make it more commercially viable, that would save hundreds of calves from a miserable life in a box in the dark, and they'd actually get a decent enough, albeit short, life. a rose veal calf will either be raised free range, in a field, sometimes even with mum, on a mixed diet of milk and grass, or in a barn and fed on milk and some solids. white veal calves are kept in a crate they can't turn or lie down in (as movement allows the muscles to develop, and this is considered undesirable in white veal meat) and in the dark (again, this is thought to "improve" the quality of the meat) and fed on a diet of only milk. this means the meat will end up really bland, colourless, and with little flavouur. apparently, this is how people like it, bizarrely, and think that the suffering is worth it for a bit of bland, tasteless, textureless crap. if you want veal, buy Rose/Pink/UK produced veal. as not only is it more humane, but in doing so you are supporting an alternative that will prevent many calves living in a box.

Thanks for the info... I barely ever eat veal, I was just curious. I usually get it when i go to a certain restaurant. Twice, people have made comments about it. They didn't seem offended, just mentioned that I should look it up.

http://www.noveal.org/wi_photos.htm A 2002 Farm Sanctuary investigation of Wisconsin veal farms revealed grossly inhumane conditions. Calves were chained by their necks in crates, standing on hard slatted floors, unable to turn around or even lie down comfortably. Covered with feces, the calves’ skin was raw and irritated, and in some cases, afflicted with open sores. Veal production methods, which include confining calves in crates and feeding them a deficient diet that causes anemia, are repugnant to the vast majority of American citizens. These practices are so cruel that they have been banned in Europe, and they should be outlawed in the U.S. as well.”

I understand that the methods have been inhumane. Hasn't anyone done anything to make it more humane? I mean, that was 6 years ago. I would think it would have spurred many other investigations and corrective action on these cruel methods some farmers use.
